Lighting -
LED 6 total powered by a meanwell driver, 3x xr-e blue leds, 3x xp-g leds

Flow-
stock pump from a 12g nanocube (105gph i think)

Return Pump-
the nanocube pump

Fuge/sump-
no fuge or sump or skimmer! just water changes!

currently add .3 ml of MB7 daily, coral frenzy 2 times a week, oyster feast every other day, weekly 1-1.5g water changes. was using reef crystals, switching to brightwell on 11/13/10. water topped off by hand daily.

well i have no official pictures of 100% accurate cound but i had an explosive growth rate the past 2 weeks! i will try and get pictures tomorrow but my rough count that i just took, i have approximately 50 polyps fully open! 4 lunar eclipses now!

ok here is an updated picture, i am still having explosive growth! i am only counting polyps that are opened up, so if babies are open they are counted, if they have not yet opened they are not counted yet.

here is my polyp count as of today:

better than kedds reds - 7
lunar eclipse - 4
purple deaths - 6
devils armor - 5
gobstopper - 7!!!!
greenbay packers - 11!!!
cherry coral/skyhigh zoas - 10!! (2-3 babies not open as well!)
eyes of rah - 9!!! (2-3 babies not open!!)

Total polyps = 59!!! 4 total lunars!

so in 23 days i have almost doubled my polyp count! 1 more polyp opens and it will double!


here is an updated picture, some polyps are closed because that hermit is doing some cleaning, the picture doesnt show all polyps as well as the big ones shade the light on the open babies and it was just a single top view:

well it has been over a month for me, i left and went on vacation then we had christmas and new years and with catching up with work and being sick and the swap being over with i think it is time for an update. no pictures though yet.

unfortunately my lunar eclipses died.

i now have the following counts:

the pictures don't show all the details, i just wanted to include a picture with my post so i took one real quick.

it is hard to see half of the polyps because they are growing down the sides of the plugs, some of which are on my rock plugs that i have them attached to finally! i am pretty excited about that, they will look nice once they fully cover those rock plugs!

i considered moving some with the zero growth to my main tank, we'll see with next update if they grew any polyps or not, and if not i will move them if i am not in first to try to get some added growth for the last month of the contest to try to take the lead!

will post a picture on the next update, i will try to get a close up individual one to show all of the polyps, it is hard to see from a trop shot because most are growing down the sides of the original plug and are finally encrusting to the large plugs.

Thanks bill! i am pretty happy with the growth other than i dont get why the gobstoppers, devils armor, and the purple deaths haven't grown a polyp in probably 2 months which sort of bums me out but maybe that is just because of the LEDS but i decided to stick it out in the LED tank for this contest for judging and for the "research" part of it to see which lights had the best growth.

Thanks guys! i plan on still updating this thread probably monthly, i have since moved these frags to my main tank so i want to see the effect my t5's in my main tank have over certain frags to see if it either stopped/slowed their growth or if it has increased their growth.

I would like to write an article and have it posted here on captive reefs of my experiences with it so others can read along. If the runner up EMUREEF wouldn't mind i would like to add him to it because the race was so tight and it truely was an epic battle of LEDS vs Halides and i know there are a lot of people out there interested in making the switch so this might give them some more insight about it. I want to write on the tank its self as well and how simple of a set up it was and how you dont need thousands of dollars to accomplish something like this!
