Our 750 Mega Reef Build Journal 10-23-10

After much anticipation we have finally got the Mega Reef under way.

The main display system is 86" x 78" x 26". Approximately 750 gallons. Built by Bashsea, the custom tank is 3/4" acrylic, with a center overflow, dry channel, 4 drains and 3 returns.
Plumbing: Returns are 1" schedule 40. Drains are 2" schedule 40.

Powered by and external Madflo 3500 gph pump.

Our protein skimmer is a Bashsea 10" x 28" Dual Beckett Skimmer.

The refugium, also built by Bashsea, measures 60" x 30" x 17" and is approximately 120 gallons.

Currently we have about 250 pounds of live rock, and approximately 1" of Caribsea Aragonite.

We built the custom wood stand.

We have not quite figured out what type of lighting that we want to do on this beast. It will be a reef, so there are so many ideas being tossed around. Can't wait till it's lit.

On no, we plan on putting lots more in. That's all we had at the time.

Yes, we did had a big atlantic tang. But we don't have it anymore. We are going to hold off on putting anymore fish in there until we get more liverock and algae growing.

I think it would look awesome with 4 pillars of some sort in each corner, well not directly in the corner but somewhere between the overflow and the corner.

Talk about a sweet reason to stop in!!! I am definitly going to make the trip, when the tank settles in to check this one out in person!!!

I always had intent on stopping in- but now it a sure thing! Sweet tank!

We are making progress on the mega reef, slowly. This week we brought the rest of the stingrays to the shop, so we got a little distracted. We now have a two freshwater stingray display systems. One is 500 gallons and the other one is 750 gallons. We were able to get the protein skimmer plumbed into the Mega Reef, the Bashsea dual Beckett skimmer, the thing is just awesome. We also switched out the refugium lights, there is now a 4 Bulb HO T5 fixture over the fuge.

We got more rock into the tank this week. We are also temporaily housing a breeding pair of puffers and there baby in the system. There is a male stars and strips approximatly 12 inches, a striped female who is just slightly smaller and their baby who is about 6 inches. Its really cool to have the whole family in there.
