For instant ocean....what type of water should you use, is there anyway
to just use tap water. I dont want to have to buy some special
sort of water and have it cost me 300 dollars just to fill up my tank.

You may wont to get a RODI filter if its not .

We tried the tap water route but even on a shallow well (not
chlorinated city water), the results were not acceptable ( < 800ppm
TDS). A few folks do it and it works for them so it is possible.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

The price of water is just plain nuts.... Sure justifies buying your
own RO/DI unit, especially when you can get a 6-stage for under $100
and you can make all you want. Well over 2000 gallons from ours
and the DI resin is finally wearing out, $6 for a recharge.#ed_op#br#ed_cl#

You can get a good RODI of eBay for a $100. or about that
most of the filters for a mid sized tank will last for 1 to 2 years you may wont to
Chang the Peri filters Thea or inexpensive to make the more costly ro filter
last longer.

Steve,
Do not make the same mistake I made for many years until I got an RO/DI unit. I battled algae for years because of high Phosphates in my water. My latest tank I went out and did it right and bought an RO/DI filter and what would you know not a spec of algae in my 125. It may be an investment for just a water filter but it is a very wise investment.
