#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I just bought a 29 gallon tank and when I get it this coming weekend I will start the setup process but I was wondering for when my tank is ready how many fish are recommended to put in it if i am gonna have approx 20lbs of live rock in it? I dont want to buy big fish or fish that will get big. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

all of the research that I have seen recommends about 1" of fish length for every 4 gallons of water in a relatively new tank and after it gets established well then you can increase to about 1" for every 2 gallons of water.

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I always heard an inch per 2 gallons as long as you add them slowly ( more than a month between new fish). A lot of it depends on the type of fish though, stuff that acts like a clean up crew doesn't count as much as something that requires additional feeding. I've found that my cleanup crew is as much, if not more, interesting than my fish. I have a 55gal with just a clown and a yellow tang that really count as 'inches'. But the shrimp, crabs and some other hitchhikers are what makes my tankfun and 'alive'.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Once you get the tank set up, the nitrites gone and have the live rock in there. I'd still suggest waiting a month to put a fish in. You'll be amazed all the critters that your tank will have 'for free', things like brittle stars, feather dusters, wormsetc. If you enjoy that kinda thing, it really makes maintainence on your tank easier, because you aren't pushing your inches of fish to the limit. The more fish, the more difficult it is to keep things balanced.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
