I have these semi transparent green bubbles apearing around the tank. They are about the size of Tic Tacs. They range from egg shapped to hot dog shapped. The grow mostly in clusters of two or three. I haven't had the time to post a pic of them. I am assuming it is some type of harmless algae or perhaps a simple plant.
24gal. Nanocube
5 Hermit Crabs
12 Turbo Snails
2 False Percula Clowns
1 Sea Cucumber
1 Anenome
35lbs. of live rock

The tank is nearly 8 weeks old.
Thanks in advance.

Sound like bubble algae to me.. They should be removed by hand if you have nothign that will eat it, if you do tro to do it without bursting them.

I believe it's called velonia and can be cool to look at, but also a PITA.

Whatever this stuff is, it is growing and multiplying like mad. I have no hair algae left, the hermits and snails have done a wonderful job with that. I just added an Emerald Crab last night and he ate one cluster of the bubble algae. He has about 20 clusters left to go. Hopefully he will get to it. If not, I will try to remove by hand. The emerald crab did mess with my cluster of feather duster worms. I noticed one worm with tube laying on the sand this morning. I hope he does not do that again. Last night he was tugging on it, and I spooked him away, but he must have gone back and pulled a worm off. It is only one worm in a cluster of 20 or so, but he might get banished if he does it again. Thanks for all the help.

The feather dusters you are talking about are not the big kind, they're a Feather Duster Cluster? I had a cluster of them that really didn't do well. Sometimes they blow right out of the cluster and float around the tank. They generally settle on a rock somewhere. Was the one on the sand still alive? If so just pick him up and put him with the others. I didn't know that emerald crabs bothered them at all. We have 6 emeralds in our tank, and they never bothered them. It sounds like you really need the emerald to work on that bubble algae. Good luck!
