I had 7FW tanks going when I walked into our LFS and saw my first 8g Oceanic Bio-Cube being kept as SW.
June 11th of 09 I set one up. Moved a year later an the 8g was the only one that came with me. Every thing else sold or is in storage.
Today whenever I look (which is often) at JimsFlies tank, the words that come to mind are-I wanna be like JimsFlies. Sounds silly but it's the truth :)

I guess ill be at the different end of the spectrum, i didn't base my tank or get an inspiration from any one tank. Cause i want mine to be my own creation. though there a lot of amazing tanks out there, i want mine to be one of those amazing tanks people go wow i want mine to look like that.

I also did not get inspired by anyones tank. I just randomly got into the hobby for some reason. However I will say that I admire andys tank (tank of the year winner) and I kind of look up to it.

I am inspired at least monthly, and at times- daily!!!!
I have to say though- my dads tanks, growing up, inspired me to get into the saltwater hobby myself, and Dentdominators tank inspired me to take it all seriously, and try to do it right and learn what needs learned to do so.
Between then and now though, as I said- there have been so many inspirations!

My insperation for getting into fish tank started with my dad having fresh water, then sir patrick introduced salt water to my dad more to get him to start one then i wanted one like both sirpatrick and my dad had so i switch from freshwater to salt.

I wouldn't say that anyones tank inspired me, but I would say that I have never witnessed such inspiration from his commitment and dedication to responsible reefkeeping as seen in my buddy and half brother, John Brancheau's tank. This guy knew how to truly reef and was just as A-retentive as I am about my tank.
Tank of the Month - October 2004 - Reefkeeping.com (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-10/totm/index.php)
Also, I have never seen such exponetial growth anywhere at any time. I remember the day that John set up this tank. It was seeded with dozens of 2 to 3 inch frags from his 90 gallon tank in his office. I think PJR remembers and can testify to what I'm about to say. I have never seen Acros so bright and colorful, that grew so much, so thick and so fast, that they literally grew up and out of the water. Some of his acros were as thick as two thumbs placed together. The pictures above do not compare to how it looked just one year after his TOTM awards. This tank was clean enough to swim in, absolutely stunning, and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He would take you in the back to his grow out/frag tank, and freely give you, yes, I said, "GIVE" you a frag or anything you wanted out of that tank and wouldn't take a dime if you forced him to. To me, that's what reefing is truly about.

I miss John and his tank. Helped me through the early years! How is he?
Mucho, I agree emphatically with every word! John is a great guy, and his tank just POPPED with great color and life. I have a few frags from his system and some day I hope they'll be colonies as large as the ones in his tank.
I'll have to add Mustang (aka Ken G) to the list. He was one of the first innovators in this Detroit area. He had especially unreal growth rates with acros, even the slow growing and difficult ones, like solies. His enthusiasm and willingness to open his home to local frags swaps really launched the strong local community that we have today.

John is doing great, I spoke with him this morning. Still working hard and most likely hunting on the weekends. A really good guy.

Man I do remember those days PJR. Remember the swap we had at his house? WOW, like wall to wall sardines in there and everybody knew each other very well.
Those were the days.

I remember them very well ... and fondly!

My aunt's reef tank inspired me. All the beautiful colored corals and fish. She was the one to intrude me to saltwater by giving me my Biocube 29. And that's how my addiction started.
