Beautiful fish, corals, clams (I'd love to see some close-ups of them) and coralline covered rock. But the exposed equipment and clear back glass majorly distract from the DT... IMHO.

Thats one nice looking tank you got there, but I have to agree with Tom, I'm kinda distracted by the exposed pluming in the background.

Thanks everyone.I am planning to paint the back glass this spring.I want to be able to ventalate the room so we'll wait for spring to keep Mrs Binford happy.I was thinking of encloseing the system also but I'm a toy nut and kinda like to be able to get to stuff without low crawling. The design was intended for a basemant sump but with the economy the way it is we ended up moveing into my brothers house to help him out.No basemant tho so I had to adjust. Speaking of paint, anyone got some recomendation???Never painted a tank befor

i love the magnetic frag plugs! i am considering getting some myself, i was always worried about the magnet in the overflow section but i see you have a few on your overflow, any rust from the magnets inside holding them or no?

The chalice on the overflows are epoxyed on all the stuuf on the glass is magnets.I was worried about the same problem(rust)so I used only magnets that are completly coated with plastic.I really like the magnets and my turbo snails redecorate the back glass all the time to give it a new look.I think they're playing checkers lol On the good side they have yet to knock one off

I cant remember where, but I bought some black vinyl to cover the back of a tank once. It worked quite well, you just need to make sure there are no bubbles.

It was hard for me because it I only have like 4 inches from the back to the wall. If you have the room it would be easier than painting and you could change it

I think any paint should work. A lot of people use krylon spray paint but being on a running tank I think rolling some low/no VOC paint is the way to go. As for enclosing the stand... if its metal what about using some magnets to hold fabric or thin plywood. That would make them easily and completely removable.

I'll take a look next time I'm at lowesThe idea's growing on me.They should have some kinda of GREEN(enviromental green) paint. Not totaly likeing the idea of covering all the toy's.I have a bad habit of digging around the tank tweaking and just plain driving the wife nuts.Guess I should spend alittle more time with her when I get home instead of running to the tank room.Next house will have a basement for sure. Then it's time for an upgrade and an in wall project or a divorce if she reads this lol

Awesome. Clams are one of the best reef tank inhabitants (IMO). That derasa is nice and will be HUGE before you know it. Looks like you may be have a couple croceas and possibly a maxima too?

Wow that clam is awesome! Did I or did I not see a cats face? It's hard for me to read it, what does that little sign say?
Binford, I could look at your tank for a week and still not see everything, Woot woot!

Hey Binford4000,
I thought I would chime in with my 2 cents about painting the background. I painted my old tank with black latex paint. Worked great, looks great, and if you wanted to change the color or redo it later on down the road it peels off with little effort. Maybe some food for thought!

The decale say's binford 3000.Because it's a three foot lite fixture I made for an old tank we had.It was so brite the house's blue windows could be seen at night from pretty far off down the road.Hence the binford jokes began.Guess six T5's is alittle to much for a 36 gal bowfront for some neighbors. lol Not sure what ya meen by cat face. Thanks for the info Steve,I'll give it a shot

Well it's just finishing it cycle after a AEFW attack from hades and the mass red bug infenstation compliments of a LFS..I was able to save only a few pieces, Soooo, makeing lemonade instead.I removed about 50% of the rock and lost the halides and switched to all LED's so looking foward to the swap and plan to make it a mix tank.

Besides it's only $$$.Actually kinda excited about the new look and stole some softies from the wife.I actually really like the softies and palley's.Besides they fit my work life.80 hours a week doesn't leave the time needed foor a pure sps tank.I'll post a pick when I get it looking like a tank again. The flow is incredable since I removed all that rock.Live and learn.I now will qt everything!!!

I figure that in twenty plus years of this addiction I've only had this happen once.So it's not the end of the world and really it was my fault.I know better then to trust a LFS with just a dip and a close look.I like the new look much better anyway and all that rock was really wipeing the flow out.I think it will look nice when I get the shopping list completed, the frags I get at the swap should come out of qt after the last interceptor treatment is done.I'm really looking foward to the new look as long as it goes as good as it looks in my head lol :embarrased:

I'm sure it will! Take your time and enjoy. After my crash I took out 40lbs of rock and rescaped. Still thinking about taking out more rock though.

judging by where you live, let me guess that the red bugs came from Pet Connection lol. i got red bugs from them as well... mine has been treated for a while not but still i will never buy a frag or fish from them again, but they do have decent salt prices so i still give them business.

I did discuss this with someone there and to their credit they are addressing the problem,it's all you can expect and they do have a nice selection.Like I said it was my fault for not QTing the colony's and frags purchased from them.I've been doing this long enough to know better and really only blame myself.Tried to save what I could but it is what it is.QT tank is a must with SPS,to many pests too mess things up.I am now going to qt everything I purchase regardless of species or the seller.Better safe then sorry. Besides the crash allowed me to do what I should have done from the start. Thanks to everyone for the comments and I'll update the thread soon
