#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I have a 48" (4- 55w lamps) PC fixture that I used to have on my old 55 g. I Need a new 36" lighting set up for my 40G breeder project. Is it possible to take the 48" hood apart and rig it into a 36" retro? I have no idea what I'm doing so any help would be appreciated. I can't see spending 160.00 on a 36" lighting set up when I have a 48" I'm not using. (The bulbs have been used less than a month.) As soon as I get the lighting done, all I need is an overflow box and can start it up. This tank will house my percs, anemone, and zoanthids only.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Thanks ,#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Angie#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Not only possible but easily done :) I did the exact same thing with our 4x65w PC fixture. I was able to reuse everything but the outer shell, it's now running the actinics over our 180, not so much as a hiccup.

The only thing I needed was two more reflectors to use all four tubes, the existing one I cut down to size for two tubes, bent them into a semi parabolic shape and used pop rivets to fasten the lamp holders to the 'new' reflectors, and screwed them into the top of the canopy with sheet rock screws. Each tube is fired by it's own ballast so it makes it even easier to locate them however you want.

Grab a screwdriver and take the fixture apart and you'll see how easy it is.

Two notes;
Try not to break the little bands that hold the bulb in the lamp holder clips, they should be reused (most of ours were dry-rotted and need to be replaced just to be sure they can't fall out of the clips)

If it's equipped with the little transformer(s) that power the little fans they can be simply removed from the wiring harness.

The thought to take some pic's of the process of retroing the fixture to make it what I wanted never even occured to me, I was too busy hacking on it to bend it to my will.

I'm trying to reuse as much stuff as possible for this project. I have a prism pro skimmer that I may put on this tank. It's only 40 gallons, and it will have a 10 gal sump w/ an overflow box.I figure the prism should be an ok skimmer for the load in the tank (zoanthids 2 clowns and anemone)#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#angie#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

No problem, should be pretty straight forward, hardest part is trying not to cut yourself on the sharp edges of the reflectors. A bit of that 'car door molding' might come in handy, that's been on my list of things to do for a while now too.

Holler if you need any help...
