Our LFS has a 3" Derasa Clam without a foot. Will it live without one?

The clam may be fine. Tridacna clams don't have a foot. What they have is a byssal gland, which produces byssal threads (thin strings that in mass can look foot-like). When moved Tridacna clams sometimes release a clump of byssal threads. Losing byssal threads doesn't hurt the clam. However, if the byssal gland is damaged the clam will die in a few months. My guess is the gland is fine but I certainly can't be sure. If you're suspicious of its quality/health I would recommend not buying it. But on the other hand if you were to order one online you would be buying it without even seeing it.
HTH,
Tom
