I have a question. You say they are pigs. What exactly does that mean? What exactly

do you have to feed them?

I target feed these thing every other day, I dust them with cyclopeeze and mysis shrimp I will do this over a half hour period. each polyp will literally eat like 2 to 3 whole mysis shrimp in that time. and when I am done they still have their feeder tentacles out wanting more.

So do you have to feed zoanthids every other day, or just certain ones? Also, how do

you afford to keep buying all of what you need to feed them? If there's like 30 polyps

and you feed each of them 3, that's 90 right there, seems expensive. I could be wrong

though, and I usually am lol.

I'm not to sure what a polyp is now lol, I thought I knew, but not sure. Is a polyp a whole

colony, or is it each little piece? A description of what a polyp is could help.

I feed my zoas DT's Phytoplankton, but I believe he feeds the mysis shrimp & cyclopeeze to the acan lords. Those would also eat brine shrimp as well, and they would love oyster eggs I'll bet. I'm a hand feeder too! They'd be fine on their own in the tank living off whats in the water column, but I get such a tickle out of feeding my babies. They expect it now, and the fish like to nibble on anything that squeaks out of my baster by accident! :)

Graphixx22, I believe you should take good care of those Lords, and some of that Moon Coral too. I wouldn't want anything to happen to it when you so graciously ship them to Dave and I in Wisconsin!! I'm waiting patiently for you to let me know when you're going to send them! :-) You've done such a nice job growing them for us! ;) Plus you are such a great member here at CR...especially when you take such good care of it's Administrator's!! hehehe lol ....Angel :angel5:

Each polyp generally represents an individual either alone or in aq group when speaking of zoas, palys, or most LPS.

Angel I just talked with Dave and he is cooking up a deal as we speak. But yes they are in very good hands. i must warn you I target feed the moon coral also. its funny when I hit the acans the moon shoots his feeders out almost like he is "begging" to be fed. Guido, yes a polyp is one individual specemin a colony is made up of a group of polyps, I also feed my zoo's I will shoot some cyclopeeze and DT's into the colum for them to gobble up and will hit tha frag tanks with marine snow twice a week as well. I cannot bieleve the rate of growth on some of my zoos I actually have a log of a couple of frags to track the growth rate. I have some PPE's that are literally growing a polyp every 8 or 9 days its amazing.

Does all coral have to be fed? (Anything with polyps I guess it would be). And if so,

how do you manage to afford to buy all that shrimp or w/e it is that you might be feeding

them when you feed them 2-3 per polyp and there's like 30+ polyps? Is there a way to

maybe breed the little critters for it?

mysis shrimp are not that expensive you can get them at your LFS. most of your corals will get all they need from just the water and the light. but some you want to target feed just to make them grow quicker and make them happy (acans, moon, openbrain, blastos, candycane, sun) I am like ReefAngel. I love to feed my babies. I just like it when they are fat and happy and it helps quicken the growth.

OK. So you can feed any type of coral? It just makes them grow faster? Also, what book would you recommend me to get as far as reef aquarium goes. I got a book on marine aquariums, but it isn't that specific about coral and anemones and such, and from the way it seems, there is a little bit of extra work involved to keeping them happy and well. The fish should be no problem, it's going to be the coral that I struggle with.

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Alot of the time the books make it seem harder than it actually is. Reefing isnt that hard, you just need 3 things, money, time, and TONS of patiants!#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

The Conscientious Marine Aquarist written by Robert Fenner is probably one of the best books available.

Other than that try wearing out the search function on the board. You'll likely be able to find a lot of answers in posts for questions and answers that have been made in dozens of different ways.

Of course if you can't find what you are looking for don't hesitate to post it.

exactly what dakar said, that is what we are all here for is to help each other out in this hobby. the only bad question is the question you do not ask. And thank you for the compliments on the frag tank. I appreciate that. I am actually seriously considering opening a store here. there is only one guy in a hundred mile radius that sells marine fish and equipment and he is all about the money. and not to mention the store smells like ferrett urine.

the funny thing about this guy is his lack of knowledge, He does not carry any MH lighting onl y PC and he only carries Jebo which is a sub par unit in my opinion. He does not carry any items for a sump or a fuge. all of his tanks are filtered with just a hang on skimmer and he only runs PC on his tanks. He actually refers customers to me when they have questions he cannot answer (which is quite often) The only good thing about this place is that he give me awesome credit for my xenia.
