Hello, Here are some pics of my two 2g Fluval Spec, Pico Reef tanks I have had them up since Jan & March of 2011. They are my first attempts at Reef tanks and "nano" tanks.
I custom built the hoods my self, one it has 2x 6" 10w CF coralife 50/50, and a LED actinic/moon.
The other has 5x 3w Cree LEDs; 2x White, 2x R.Blue, & 1x UV
I am doing this log for two reason; one is to see if the difference from LEDs and CF lights in both color and growth. And the second is more personal, because someone told me I couldn't keep anything saltwater in this small of a tank, let alone a reef.
Both the tanks have no fish only inverts.
CF Tank stock list:

1 Pom Pom Crab
1 anemone Porcelain Crab
3 Hermits
4 Snails

1 Zoa Colony
1 Giant Green Duncan

That is a beautiful little pico! I tried to win one of those at a swap this past weekend, with no success. Makes me want to just buy one now! Love it when the 2 gallon tanks looks way bigger then it is, awesome!!

Yeah...that is a sweet pico. One of the best I can recall seeing.
After you showed your photos to me at the GRMAS swap, I bought more raffle tickets to try to win the same tank they had in the raffle...with no success. :(

I love that everytime anyone sees these tanks they tell me how much they want one. It lets me know that I'm on the right track.

Here is a few pics of all the new growth happening in my CF tank. I was surprised at how much this thank has been growing. Especially when you think that there is only a small built in overflow with carbon and bio-balls and I don't dose anything, all just water changes. Sorry the quality isn't great my only camera is on my phone.
when I got these button polyps there was only two of them, now there are 7

The Harlequin in the LED tank is doing great, I was afraid about what I was going to feed him. I planned on keeping a few C.chip stars in an extra tank and just cycle through their legs as they re-grow them. But the star didn't make it too long after the leg was cut off. So now I just feed him asterina stars from a LFS, and freeze the C.chip legs and throw one in every few weeks.

Thanks, that is a female Harlequin shrimp, they are awesome little shrimp to watch and I had wanted one forever. They only eat starfish so I have to make sure I throw a few in every day or so. Yeah that Duncan looks huge in the pic but its not really that big. It's only a 2.5 gal pico so everything looks big in it! It is starting to bud another head though.

Here is some updates on growth and new additions
The new head forming on the Duncan is getting bigger.
 http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n596/badfishofbabylon/CF%20tank/IMG_0847.jpg
This awesome Yuma that I love is splitting, so I'm pumped about this one
http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n596/badfishofbabylon/CF%20tank/IMG_0848.jpg
The big purple one up front split on to this shell, so I put it in my other pico
http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n596/badfishofbabylon/CF%20tank/Shroomsplit.jpg
I also added an arrow crab and a horn coral frag to the LED Pico
http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n596/badfishofbabylon/LED%20tank/LED4-27-11.jpg
You can see the first shroom that split from the green fluorescent one that was added to this tank about a month ago is starting to get its color
http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n596/badfishofbabylon/LED%20tank/IMG_0854.jpg
I am still playing with the light in the LED tank, because I keep frying my purple zoas. I have the whites turned almost all the way off and the blue are only about 10%. These light are super powerful on this little tank, I'm just going to have to watch the corals closely. The Horn coral is my first Sps Frag in the Picos so I'm excited to see if the tank can support an Sps coral, I'm a little skeptical myself.
As for the CF tank its growing like crazy I think very coral in the tank has or is in the process of multiplying / splitting. This might not be a big deal to most; but I am blown away these little tanks can support all of this growth, they are basically stock besides the Lights and I add no sups to the water

Here are some pics of the LED tank a few days after the move. Everything is looking healthy and fully open in both tanks, so the move seemed not too stressful on either. We did lose the porcelain crab how ever....

Updates on the LED tank.

The Trumpet coral is glowing like Kryptonite , and growing another mouth. The Harlequin is doing great, he still gets his leg a week.

Shrooms from the other pico are getting bigger, and I finally got rid of the Majano on the Zoa rock.

Still not sure what kind of Zoa this is
http://media11.dropshots.com/photos/881776/20110619/202850.jpg (http://www.dropshots.com/badfish#date/2011-06-19/20:28:50)

And all of the Zoas I burnt when I was still fine tuning the LED power are getting their color back

The SPS, Acan, Ric and Hammer coral are all doing awesome as well, they just need to get them in the rimless soon. Over crowed.

Badfish
09-14-2011, 01:57 PM
Sadly Jim, the tanks are no more, they have been combined and placed in my rimless. It was bitter sweet, sad to see them go but it was awesome knowing that they were doing so well that they need more room to grow. Here is a few pic of the corals in their new home

The Duncan now was 3 heads, the blue mushroom has almost tripled in size, and the yuma has split 4 times.
http://media10.dropshots.com/photos/881776/20110913/164038.jpg

The burnt Zoas from the led pico have colored up amazingly, next to the is the upper rock from the CF tank with the GSP, and Shrooms

The sexy is very happy with all the new room so is the Pom-pom although I don't see her as much as I did,
but she found an aptasia as a surrogate pom-pom.

And Harley from the LED pico is now in King of my fuge,
as for the jerk arrow crab, he has gone missing, this is the last know Photo of him.
http://media9.dropshots.com/photos/881776/20110621/r90_162738.jpg
I bet you can guess what happened to him.

I still have the LED pico up with just water, LR, and some hermits so it will stay cycled. I plan on Putting it up in my office, So hopefully I'll have another build soon. Thanks for asking.
