ok, so I am considering buying a vortech Mp40 so I was wondering if there were different kinds of Mp40's and if so which should I buy for my up and coming 120 gallon. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have a vortex mp40w. By far the best purchase for my aquarium. I love the feed and reef crest modes.

W is for wireless as has been stated. Although I run 2 in my 100 you likely could get away with 1. With the new ES controller they have several new pre programmed modes. With 2 you can sync them together wirelessly so that when you change modes on one you change both. They also operate in a way that when one is going full blast the other isn't. You can create waves and such when you have two in operation. I have four running at the store and when I put one in feed mode they all go into feed mode automatically. Vortechs are a great investment for sure. I fully endorse the product.

I'm with Chort on this one. Start off with 1 of the MP40es. You can definitely get away with the one until your corals grow out and are a bit more demanding of flow. That should give you plenty of time to save up for a second one. Good luck on your build. Keep us updated with pics!

So start with one (wES) and then save up for the 2nd ;)
+2
then after awhile you will start to think about how the ES you can program pumps to go on the back wall of your tank.
and thus the addiction continues.

I don't understand the reasoning for buying one MP40w es 'eco smart "if you only need one try to find a plain MP40 and save yourself some $$$.
I have 3 MP40w es on my 180 one on each end and one on the back the one on the back I dial it down since the front to back is 24 inches and I want my sandbed to stay put.
on the ends of the tank one is the slave and one as the drive they work in sync with
each other depending on what mode I choose when one is powering up the other is winding
down and so on. I also run 2x Koralia 4's aimed at the water surface.
