#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I think my hermit crabs have killed one of my Trochus snails. The last two days when I have checked the tank in the morning, it has been upside down. This morning, the foot was very torn up, and even the cleaner shrimp was jumping on the snail, and picking at the foot.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#What should I di with the dead snail? I only have three hermit crabs, so I doubt they will be able to eat all of the snail very quickly, and I dont think just leaving it in the tank is a good idea, as the decaying flesh is bound to foul the tank rather quickly.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#What is the best way to clean up the shell, so I can put it back in the tank for the crabs to wear?#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Robert#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I have been righting them, when I check the tank, if they need it.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#As you suggest, I will pull the snail from the tank, to prevent it from fouling the water.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Are there any suggestions on how to clean the shell, so it can be re-introduced to the tank?#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Once you get a whiff of a dead snail you'll likely toss the shell, as far away as possible LOL they wreak! But you could boil the shell for a bit and the toss it back in, seems like a lot of work for just a shell, if you are just looking for future homes for hermits they can be purchased in bulk quanities pretty cheap.

I would keep in in there for a bit. it will give the tank some free food but not too long as it will pollute the tank. Hermits are opportunistic if they get a chance at a snail they will take it.
