#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#ok, i know this may sound dumb but what does DI stand for. I know what RO is but not DI#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

the RO is reverse osmosis and the DI is dionization

no bother at all that is what these forums are here for.
actually RODI units are pretty cool I researched them before I got one just to see what I was getting.
the DI is a canister that contains charged synthetic resin beads or ganules that attract ions of opposite charge, they remove a wide variety of charged chemicals.
The reverse osmosis removes a high percentage of minerals, nitrates, and phosphates, but not silicates. . the RO effeiciency depends on the impurity of incoming water, water pressure, water temperature. and the age of the membrane.

Split these off to start a new thread.
Graphixx in your research did you happen upon why such a high portion of water is 'rejected' at the membrane, and more specifically why it's rejected instead of just being filtered?
Before I get it wet, I took ours all apart to see what made it tick, curiosity got the better of me.... Quite simplistic in design, prefilter, carbon stages, RO, and DI.
And yeah, I take EVERYTHING apart.

I bieleve you have such a high ejection rate because that is all the flow the filters can handle to still be efficient. if you ran more water through them so you had less waste water you would not have as clean of water and your membranes would not last as long. Let me find an e-mail I got from Walter at airwaterice.com and I will give you some specifics. I asked him the same question.
