I just finished building a new wood stand for a used 29 I picked up. Problem is when i put the tank on the stand the tank wobbles like the top of the stand is uneven. Any ideas on what I could do?
I don't want to fill the tank on this stand and then have the glass flex and start leaking. The tank was on a metal stand before with no problems.
What about putting a thin piece of foam insulation under the tank or something else like that?

that is what I would try. just a simple shim of some sort.

Try a sheet of the 3/4" rigid insulating foam under the tank and should compress where needed to help level things out for you.

Is there any concern with using 3/4" thick that the tank bottom frame will compress the foam to a point where the foam in the middle will push up against the bottom of the glass causing it to crack? I was thinking more in the lines of 3/16" or 1/4" thick foam or would that be too thin?

You may have a good point there, it would depend on how dense the foam is and how much it is willing to compress. How much unveness is there to make up the difference for? How deep is the plastic frame deally around the bottom of the tank to the bottom glass, think that would be the target thickness of the foam.

Dakar,
Thanks for the help on this. I am going to try and get foam that is no thicker than the distance between the stand top and the bottom of the glass.
I dont have a lot of space to take up luckly so thinner foam should work.

Glad I could be of help. I'd say cut the foam to give yourself an inch or two around the whole base of the tank, once the tank is filled with water and such you should be safe to trim it down, but I'd leave a little excess sticking out, maybe 1/4" or so just to sort of cradle the tank in place after it's compressed.
And of course post us some pics!

From whit i have read if the tank has trim don't use foam under
but without trim you can use it. don't ask me the deference.....
someone else may no.

If the frame has trim the foam can compress but not expand. In some cases this can have spots in the foam that do not compress evenly increase the chances of tank damage due to and uneven surface.
