metal algae scraper?

I had a brain fartand only just now rememberedall of the warnings against having metal in the tank... does that apply to temporary things like my scraper, or to things that will be left in the tank all the time, or both?#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

I have a kent long handled scraper that has a stainless steel blade and a metal handle (I think). I don't think you would have any problem if you use the scrapper and then remove it from the water. I try and rinse mine in fresh water after I am done to prevent the blade from rusting.

sweetpea, you are fine with the scraper, you do not want metal in your tank for a period of time it will relase bad things into the water. It probably would not hurt to rinse it dry it with fresh water when your done using it.

I believe mine is a Kent too. Mine is a metal handle that's rubber coated with a replaceable metal blade. It's probably one of the tools I use the most, or I get chaeto trying to cover the front of my glass. I believe the rule of thumb is just not to leave any metal in your tank for long periods of time. Also, If a business sells Tank Supplies, they better be reef safe or have some kind of indicator on the packaging if it is NOT reef safe. I'm sure your's is fine, so scrape away! :)
