I bought a used 120 gallon tank from bostonpop on mr. Me and a friend picked up the tank and the guy said nothing is wrong with the tank. I get it home.fill it up everything seems fine for three days. Then I wake up to a flood. I call the guy and he admitted the leak and said it wasn't that bad and he glued it. Well since yesterday I resealed the leaking overflow. I transferred everything into holding tanks with alot of casualties. Im so mad I lost my powder blue, three cleaner shrimps, peppermint shrimps, sixline, bubble coral and a few acan colonies. Hopefully no more as im starting to put the 120 back up.

It's people like that, that give this hobby a black eye. If he/she were a good person they would give you a refund.

I think I would be talking to a lawyer if you have any house damage from it...that is total BS.

+1 Especially as the seller admitted mis-representing the tank.

I hear civil suit~I did it when I caught some neighbors kids jumping on top of my 86 mustang~parents wound up paying $2700 in damages.
If you were to tally up your total losses~I'm sure you'd find it well worth the trouble.
I'm truly sorry for your loss L&L (((hugs)))

i agree that its bad practice that the person lied to you and that in full confidence you should be able to use the product without problem... i only give this tip to anyone who plans on buying a used tank and reads this post.
This is a good example of water testing ur tank with FW for a few days to see if anything leaks, a test like that could have avoided a flood and casualties.
this wasn't pointed at the original poster... just proves that you can't believe anything anyone says and you should do your own tests to see if they were lying or not.
no matter i dont blame ur angry at the person and i would be too, its even possible that a water test would have not shown this and no amount of sorry's and ill pay you back will change the fact of what happen. I along with everyone else am sorry too.

he said the tank was good for 3 days, so even if he did a water test it would of came out positive. It sucks he didnt reviel the leak before buying, if he did and you still baught it then its on you, kind of a buy at your own risk and he wouldnt have any responsibility to your losses, but since he didnt say anything about it until after the fact he owes you.

I think you also need to make a stink over there at MR on his selling thread and in any threads he has. Make sure and warn people not to trust this guy/gal. This just makes me nervous cause I bought my tank used too and I have SOO money invested in that tank if something were to happen I would be devastated. I am so sorry you are going through this but I agree that if he will not at least refund you for the tank You need to get a lawyer.
99% of the people in this hobby are ultra cool. Then there's that lousy 1%....:(

If you do intend to seek damages it would probably be a good idea to get him to admit to being dishonest and misrepresenting the item you bought in writing. Otherwise it is just your word vs. his.
Hope you can get everything restarted and don't have any further issues!

He knew what he was doing! A felloww reefer was wth me and picked up the tank. He also asked if there was anything wrong with the tank. And the overflow was leaking. I have it repaired but im buying a new tank from great lakes or getting out of the hobby.

Thats something that should be disclosed, especially when asked about it! Who cares what some bonehead says, thats just wrong!

Wow the guy was mean for selling u a tank as is used... maybe u shoulda paid full retail and bought a tank with a warrany
While sure he should have probably told u about resealing it or fixing a previous leak, but still don't mean he was a jerk or trying to rip u off. You said he said he fixed it, obviously he thought it was fixed and wasnt an issue, heck depending on how long itd been since he fixed it itd be quite possible he simply forgot about it until the issue arose with you.... that being said its possible the issue arose from sitting, from being moved, or several other things also unfortunately. + You said it was fine for 3 days now the overflow is leaking.... is it an external overflow or is it leaking from the bulkhead??
Yeah it sucks, but its the risk of buyin used. If someone sold me a coral and I didnt inspect it, didnt dip it and I got a bad bug/hitchhiker that killed stuff should I sue too? LOL
He still should have mentioned it before the sale. I know I wouldn't buy a tank that has had previous problems, even if they were fixed.

I sold a resealed 150 tank, stand, and canopy. I sold it for 100 bux, and told the new buyer when I resealed it, I only did the inside silicon, and that is why I was selling it. That you should remove all the silicon for a proper reseal and that is why I am selling it, and why it's so cheap. Better to be honest up front, as I stated above, karma is a *****. I can't believe someone is actually defending that seller. What a dirtbag!!!

A recent repair should have been disclosed. Perhaps if you resealed it a year ago and it has been in service with no problems, that is different (although I still think significant enough to warrant discloser).

When me and my neighbor a witness picked up the tank we asked if anything was wrong with the tank. The guy replied no.

ugh .. something like that is sure to leave a rotten taste in your mouth and leave you hesitant to buy used equipment in the future. very sorry to hear you're dealing with it and have already lost livestock.
i do agree that buying used is always a risk, especially when it comes to tanks. and i certainly agree that a repair of that sort should have been disclosed at the point of sale, but i also know that seals are prone to give with each empty/refill cycle .. original as well as repairs. did he have the tank level when set up? did you level it? how old is the tank? it doesn't take a huge difference in pressure on the panes to create issues. if he didn't level it and you did, or vice versa, that's a recipe for disaster regardless of repairs.
maybe the seller would be more likely to cooperate with you and work something out if you approached him with a breakdown of all the expenses you've incurred because of the situation? give him a chance to make things right privately before taking the issue public. but if he's still refusing, i'm with the masses and say to expose the issue on his selling thread as well as consider legal action. few are going to want to deal with someone who's unwilling to right his wrong.
best of luck to you .. it's rotten that you happened across one of the minority in this hobby. most people (at least in my experience) are complete class acts.

He didn't want to do anything. The sale was as is. The tank was level when I set it up. Im in the process of buying a new tank, since I will never take a risk again on a used tank.
Pretty lousy, pretty deceptive. Does he sell used cars as his profession?

well if you want to pay for shipping, I will send a few frags to help replace what was lost. I have mainly z's and p's, some frogspawn, and a chalice I could frag. Also some chili pepper monti I could frag also. That really sucks, and NOBODY should think about defending a deceptive greedy person like this.
