i need to know what this thing is. My lights didnt come on today and this is what i found when i turned them on this evening. I poked it and it closed like a zoo would close, it's not moving or retracting like a worm and i've spent an hour looking on the net and havent come across this.

What is it? It's obviously irritating the zoos around it, and looks odd to me.

looks like a tunicate or a sponges syphoning tube.

I agree could be any of these. I think tunicate or sponge tube most likely.

when i took this photo, i considered it to be "OPEN"... wheni prodded it, it closed and retracted slightly, much like a zoo would do.

It's not light sensitive, or motion sensitive, it's also not mobile and basically "popped up" over night. It's coming from a small piece of live rock with those zoos on it. If it were a siphon from a sponge, wouldnt i see the sponge too?

The sponge could be in or under the rock.

unfortunately i was unable to take the rock out without tearing some zoos so i left it in. The ones around it are definitely irritated.

i did touch the thing, it's squishy, more so than a polyp would be.
