*No this isnt a DIY which is why I posted it here*

Started building my own after I saw how expensive these things are.

After getting the correct drill bits and some epoxy magnets this is my latest one. This is a "Test" unit so the red marking are still on it.

Let me know what you think or let me see yours... always looking for improvements / tweaks!

Nice work!

I'm curious as to why you don't consider it DIY...

I do plan on making it a DIY soon. I need to write some instructions first.

Are the magnets protected from saltwater in any way?

What thickness of glass are they going through? I had trouble finding magnets strong enough to "catch" on both sides of my glass, and hold so many corals... - and it's a small tank. So, I punted, and bought pretty much exactly what you made - but, for a pretty penny!

Don did you try the rare earth magnets? I've used 3/16-inch thick by 3/4-inch round or square magnets and they have some hold power.

I had used RE magnets, yes. But, likely, the layer of epoxy I put down to keep them "out of the water" was a little too thick. It wasn't a big deal for me. My small system didn't really require any great re-engineering projects. I just figured it was something I could do...

I was HOPING to make the shelves out of slices of reef rock too - so they didn't look so out of place. But, instead, I just tolerated the horrible Eshopps logo glaringly out of place in my tank for a few months. (What WERE they thinking?)
