Best heaters?

Wondering what everyone recommended as far as heaters

Setting up 55 gal with a sump

Currently have a Steal Pro that came with some used equipment I bought, with a BOX :propellerhead: so I will be returning to Pet Smart today.
(I really liked the design on the stealth pro, but I did have one fail on my freshwater tank back in February)

This is a 200W, thinking should move up to 250 - 300W.

Pet Smart carries Fluval anyone using that??

I think that's what I have, the Fluval from Petsmart. It seems to work fine. My wife works at Petsmart, so that's where we buy a lot of stuff because she gets a discount.

I've never tried fluval. Cheap good heaters as the Theos by Hydor. If you are looking for a awesome heater the jbj with temp controller. However they are very pricey.250-300 watts should be plenty.

I really liked the design of the Stealth Pro too, loved the rubber coated outside.... But I don't think they have brought them back to the market since the recall??? If you can find them on line they say "out of stock".

I liked them too but every one has been mandated for recall. If you contact Marineland they will give you a 100% refund or an exchange for a Marineland model (yuck). They cashed me out on both of my Stealths, even the 2 year old unit.

I run a 200W Finnex Titanium on my 55, haven't had a problem.

Do two 100-150w heaters..... their going to fail sooner or later and a 250-300 will cook your tank if it fails in on position (fairly quick too) which they normally do..... unless you have a good controller then you should be ok with 1 larger heater if programmed properly ;)

+1 two heaters and Fluvals are fine I have one use it to heat fresh salt water. I have 2 of the "pet smart brand ones" I like them cause you can fully submerge them.

Pet Smart gave me a $38 credit for the Stealth 200W

They only had the NON submersible Fulvals which wont work in a sump as the min/max water mark on the heater is only an inch.
Only submersibles in stock that would work was the Aqueon Pro Heater 200.

I'm going to keep looking at what is being suggested, as the tank empty so nobody getting cold

200W Finnex Titanium heater looks really nice - went and found that online..... also lead me to the JBJ TRUE TEMP in the 300W

I've heard really bad things about the JBJ Tru temps, multiple accounts of cooking tanks. Also, I'd get either a heater with exterior controls such as the Finnex, or buy one. The Finnex option will be better though cost wise, as a good Ranco ETC will run you about 90$. I'd get the Finnex, best quality/value IME. They have them at Amazon Stingrays if thats near you.

I have a finnex digital heater and it works well. However it does sometimes not know when to shut off.
