I'm looking for some ideas or things that you guys have looked back on a went "Ohh man I wish I would have done that!!"

One thing that I am thinking about is putting a power head near the center of the tank but need some ideas on how to hide the wire coming down the back of the tank inside. I'm already doing a rock wall but do I want to put it behind the rock wall (the wire) and then what happens if I need to remove the power head...? Yeah not a good idea.

Thanks in advance for any ideas. :)

The one thing I wish I would of done would be a bigger sump. That way I could have four sections and volume.

This site is more like a smaller family. A lot more personable but lower count. MR is like a mall of people, mainly all retarded but lots of good retarded advice to sift through.:smash:

I have done this 2 different ways and had issues with both. I have had them move, clog and break.
Keep the pumps together and as high up in the rocks as you can. Use tubing, hidden in the rocks to get the flow were you need it.

Few things that I wished I did when I started the hobby.

1. Larger sump
2. Back up equipment
3. Fail safe plumbing ( Incase water reverse siphons)
4. Efficient yet powerful main pump to reduce the power heads in the tank
5. Frag system to allow for taking personal care of my corals if they get stung or stressed
6. QT for fish and QT for corals ( Cant emphasize enough) .
7. Label each cable

I hope it helps.

Yeah, I want to do a frag system input into my new tank.

My main regret is not having the tank drilled for an overflow... Hang-on overflows suck!

As for your wire hiding... what about using the same material you build the wall with to coat the cord of the powerhead. Then it would blend in and still be accessible. You could even build the wall in such a way that the cord(s) tucked/locked into the wall structure.

Tom

I totally disagree, I get much better advice on here than MR. Don't get me wrong I'm on MR just as much as here, you just have to take their advice with a grain of salt.

Good idea Tom. On the drilled tank, I went from a HOB overflow to a tank that is drilled four times. I am doing 3 drains and one feed that I will split a couple times.

Adam, really MR? Lol ;) I think you just said that to get us talking. I have appreated getting a few helpf nuggets from some very experienced reefers when I started. One of the best pieces of advice I got was buy the most high quality and best skimmer and lighting system you can afford. If you have crappy equipment you will spend more money "upgrading" and fixing/rigging the crap inthe long hull. QT your fish when you get them. Or buy them from someone who does never impulse buy fish.
The thin I wish I would have done when starting the 150g is taking the plunge and buying some huge vortechs. Now I have 4 pumps doing the work that 1 or 2 could have. For the nearly 250$ I spent on the 4 pumps I have... You get the picture. More will come to me I am sure.

Very true Heidi! Isnt it funny how if you just spend a little more up front how much nicer and easier everything can be?

Skimmer - Using an ASM G4 to start. Plan to Mod it heavily.
Lights - Went from MH to LED on my 72 and they are working out GREAT. Plan to expand on the LED's for the 200.
QT - Already have a QT tank setup down stairs.
Pumps - I will be using three Tunze's and possibly an AC to control them. Will supplement dead spots if any with return pump.

I own a 29Biocube. I wish I would have waited so that i could remove the back wall (wet/dry trickle) so i could drill and add a small sump. I also wish I would have went bigger because now I am working on accumulating equipment for a much larger tank. Like my old man always told me in eucre...Go big or stay home!
