We bought home about 20 of these snails from the keys a few weeks ago (you know, the "crabs on a plane" trip). Anyhow, these buggers were picked on rocks along the shore. They do well in the tank... When they stay in it! They come up to the black trim... And often go right down the side of the tank. Eventually they hit the carpet, where we find 2 or 3 per day and toss them back in. They survive each time. They also seem to like the hang-on filter and skimmer.

Any idea what they are? And any Info on them? They have a nice shell with pink overtones in them. Sizes range from 1/4 to 3/4 inch. I also saw these in Jamaica while there on business a few years ago.

A Nerite I believe. I've had them and they do the same thing.

+1 on the nerite. Some stay in the tank but a lot of them are intertidal and spend some time out of the water.

Definitely nerite snails! Maybe they are drunk? How much vodka are you dosing?

LOL It's the VODKA dosing! Found a larger one today when I got up.... he was cruising on the carpet, about 6 feet away from the tank.

Lol!

I had some snails climb out and i heard something drop, and was liek what was it. couple days later I found one all dried and dead. Then another. Then i caught a few climbing out. Did a water change then just to see if they were upset with something.

Well, now over 60 days later, and these dudes are still around. They don't seem to go down the back of the tank as much. Now they seem to stop at the rim, or crawl on the water out-flow for the hang-on skimmer or the hang-on filter.
