This is a cool fish to own. He flashes when showing off and flicks his fins up and down when flashing. He eats just about everything I put in the tank for the carnivores. He eats pellets, flake, but his favorite would be frozen marine cuisine diet (brine, mysis, squid, etc). McCosker's Flashers are known jumpers and I have found this guy in the overflow one time.

That is a great pic of a nice wrasse!
I'm wondering if it is a McCosker's...The belly seems whiter whereas the McCosker's is generally a shade of yellow. I'm not sure what it would be though...perhaps a Carpenters?

Thanks Jim! He's a McCosker's. He has one dorsal fin filament. He's always had that bright white belly unlike other McCoskers.

Maybe a female then?
After doing a little research, I also don't think it is a carpenters...been awhile since I looked at one of those closely I guess.

Sweet fish either way! MY McCosker added a bunch of color and livelyness to the tank!

Thanks, I bought him pretty small so I think he's still a juvenile/sub-adult. He also could be between male and female but he does flash and show off like the males do. Also, I had a dominant Lubbocks Fairy wrasse in the tank until he went carpet surfing so that could have kept him from getting the yellow tummy?

I would say it is definitely a McCosker's but probably a sub-adult or female like Mallorie said. Beautiful fish though. Flasher and fairy wrasses are among my absolute favorites! Thanks for sharing!

and, since Mr. Schminks wouldn't advertise for himself - he had some beautiful flasher wrasses there when I stopped in a few weeks back. Had I not been going to hunt down my wife at Birch Run, I'd have one swimming in my tank right now.
Next time!
