#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I have been hearing about flooding when the power fails. Is there something I can do to prevent this? A valve I should have?#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#you only need to worry about a flod if you use a sump/fuge below your main tank....to fix this you can usea check valve on the return line...you can find them at home depot or on line...heres a link to one source #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#A href="http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=4076&N=2004+113833"#ed_cl#http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=4076&N=2004+113833#ed_op#/A#ed_cl#hope this helps#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#tigersax7#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

The best way to avoid a flood is to set the water level in your sump so that in the event of a power failure any water than can be siphoned back down the return line can be maintained in your sump. Secondly popping a small hole at a point (in the tank) just below the water level will let air into the line and break the siphon to stop the reverse flow of water down. To test it kill the power to any return pumps and see where your water levels end up... if it's too close to flooding just turn the pump(s) back on and adjust until it's at a safe level.

Check valves are great when they work.... but Murphy's Law says they will work fine for testing... but they will only fail when you really need them. Two may help this a little, but they do add head pressure to your return line.

I am also considering bying a standby generator at 1st this seemed over
the top but it seems like a good selling feature for the house in the
future so good for resale and the 1st time those everything cuts off
and the lights go on and I am the only one with electricity in my
neiborhood and of course all the fish and corals are happy! #ed_op#img style="border: 1px solid rgb(49, 105, 198); cursor: pointer; background-color: rgb(198, 211, 239);" onclick="InsertImage('/richedit/smileys/2.gif');" onmouseover="this.style.backgroundColor='#C6D3EF';this.style.bo rder='1px solid #3169C6'; " onmouseout="this.style.backgroundColor=''; this.style.border=''" src="richedit/smileys/2.gif" align="middle"#ed_cl#
