Anyone use a black substrate? If so what kind? Any thoughts about your experience with it?

I have seen it and I personally think it looks weird. However the corals seemed to pop out more.

Haven't used it hehehe you know that. But one thing I know about it is that it absorbs light, instead of reflecting it. So for a reef and where you want your light bouncing around etc I personally wouldn't use it even though it does look super cool. T5s would seem to be better if you were going to go black. I feel pointed light sources would get absorbed more... Maybe no problems idk

I have this in my 29Biocube. It has some pros and cons to it.
Pros:
-Looks sharp, very attractive.
-Any bright colored anything will POP against the black.
Cons:
-Any waste will show up too. If you dont keep the bottom very clean you can see your dead flow spots.
-This is NOT sand. It is like a volcanic rock. It is coarse and if you have anything that makes a regular habit of picking up mouthfuls of substrate this is probably not the stuff to use.
Personally I like the look but I would have gone with a fine substrate if they had it.
