View Full Version : Algae & Pests Purple slim bubble algae help

The purple slim bubble algae started on one rock and is now moving to others. Anyone have any tips to control/ get rid of this problem. I have snails, hermits, a emerald crab and a cleaner shrimp. There is a decent amount of green algae too but the snails hermits and emerald seem to be eating that pretty well and I scrap daily. The only coral I have is GSP and xenia the rest of the tank is just live rock. Any and all info/ help is appreciated.

Is it dinos? If so a 36 hour lights out cover the tank with a blanket is how I got rid of mine.... No peeking and no need to feed the fish.

more flow, better skimming, blow it off with a turkey baster and what heidi said too.

Should I expect the coral to be alright I know they are pretty basic pieces?

I have a tank full of sps and nice corals. Yes I lost a bit of color but nothing was killed. At that point I had dinos so bad that they were smothering my sps and covering everything. So there was really no other choice for me. Before we give you anymore advice could you please attach a picture. There are different slime algae out there dinos and cyano are not even algae they are bad bacteria run a muck. Photos would help us help you get a handle on your problem and send you in the right direction to solve it.

Looking forward to some helpful info thanks, since I have got my snails two of my margaritas keep ending up on there backs I have flipped them over numerous times im not sure what they are doing.

In your pic, there is a maroon slime covering a rock, with little black bubbles all around. Are you trying to get rid of the BUBBLES? That algae, if it is algae, would get eaten up by Sally crabs. Two of them cleaned up my bubble algae problem in under a week. Then, they grew big and started cleaning up my bottom dwelling fish, but long after the algae was gone...

I was looking into some chemical algae help, but i figured i would look into a natural solution first, it has gotten pretty bad my girl just got in there when i went up to college and got a lot scraped off and netted it up but im sure it will be back soon enough I will check that stuff out.
