This has been in my tank for quite a while. My understanding is that he is an algae grazer, and good for the tank. I just cannot remember what the name of it is.

Looks like a chiton species.

thats all i could think of too, but it is just a bit smoother looking, but by far the closest to a chiton

on some of the larger chitons a layer of flesh grows over the plates on their back

It's a chiton of some type...I found a similar looking one on wet web media. Thanks for helping me find the right word to search on! :)

Sweet chiton. I've only seen one before and it was at the Tropicorium.
