View Full Version : Flow & Plumbing Best placement?

I am totally not satisfied with the flow in my tank :( I've got 2x240gph Koralias. Issue is where the heck do I put them for best flow?

I had them placed 1 on each side of the tank, at different heights. Seemed ok, until today I noticed a small patch of cyno on the left side sand bed. Now the patch could be from the pistol stirring up that area, right? But I'm thinking it's more from lack of flow, like a dead spot. See pic area circled in white :) Now if I put 1 pump on the back wall my fungia and duncan get a lot of flow. Maybe to much.

Here's an FTS showing where I have the pumps now. Where would you put them if this was your tank?

A few minor tweaks and you should see some improvement. I would move them both to the back glass outside edges), pointing slightly toward the middle. The right one below the overflow pointing a little up, and the left one at the same level pointed to create turbulence on the surface. You may still have some low flow areas that (depending on where corals and rock are placed) and those may need some occasional sand stirring or attention at water change time but such is life.

JMHO,
