Hello, everyone. I am a member of several forums, but joined because I know some people on here that are close. I have a 29g reef tank with 10g sump. Today I just got my lights!

A bit of info...

29G display
10G sump (holding 6 gallons)
Danner Mag Drive 7 return pump
Hydor Slim Skim Nano protein skimmer
Hydor Koralia Nano 425 (x3)
Taam Rio+ 200 (114gph)

Boost LED gen. 1 par30s
- 3 royal blue/2 cool white (2)
- 4 royal blue/1cool white (1)

I currently have just 4 corals...some gsp, a frag of king midas zoas, a small piece of orange monti cap, and a small colony of green birdsnest.

Are you just now setting this tank up? The reason I ask is you might want to check out the nano contest that is starting up soon.

The tank actually turned 1 year old on the 4 of Jan. But I just got my LEDs today.

Thanks. When is the deadline for the contest?

I will be going to Frag-A-Thon on Jan. 20, and might go to the Lansing swap on the 29th.

Thanks!

It's picture time.

This is what the tank looked like several days ago, with my crappy lights.

Last summer, I added the sump. Here it is during leak testing.

I used to run a Coralife 125 (long-story short, I replaced it).

Oh look. Oceanic was nice enough to send me a new skimmer body to replace the one that leaked. Too bad it was over a week after I already got a new skimmer from MD.

Hello, mr. crabs.
http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad307/Seano_Hermano/DSCN4775.jpg

For a while, I had 2 pacific cleaner shrimp. They didn't last more than about 3 weeks. They had bopryds (parasitic isopods), which I hadn't noticed until I brought them home from the store. I was going to remove the bopryds, but could never catch the shrimp. :(

I met up with a guy from the Cleveland forum and got the corals I have now.

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad307/Seano_Hermano/DSCN4735.jpg

Then I got some zoanthid-eating nudis. Happy little guys at this time.
http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad307/Seano_Hermano/DSCN4723.jpg

Then they died by freezing. I dumped the small cup of water on my back porch. lol.
http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad307/Seano_Hermano/DSCN4730.jpg

I made a cool little diy coral viewer. 3" pvc and 1/8" acrlyic. Works great.
http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad307/Seano_Hermano/photobucket-3913-1323500902595.jpg

My orange monti cap started browning out (expected), and then got stn (not so expected).
http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad307/Seano_Hermano/DSCN4792.jpg

So I dipped it using tincture of iodine. Lesson learned.
http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad307/Seano_Hermano/photobucket-3685-1325128886875.jpg

Now I have the correct medication to dip next time.

I am hoping to build a new stand within the next few months. It should look something like this, minus the door pulls which detract from the beautiful grain of zebra wood. I am going to use magnet catches on the doors, instead.

hehe. It's at the top.

But we will add it here as well, for when I update it at the top.

Hopefully the Nikon P90 will capture the blues better than the phone did. :silly:

Paul's Corals usually brings a colony to the more recent swaps, he might have one at Lansing. I'd call him to make sure though.
Looking good, I can't wait to see that stand built!

I would eventually like to replace the ugly fixtures with nickel-silver pendants and white glass shades.

Yesterday, I picked up some pendants from Lowe's. The ones i wanted weren't going to work, so these should be better.

Interesting fixtures. Do they clamp in the middle?

Seano Hermano
01-12-2012, 03:37 PM
The threaded part unscrews so you can attach a lamp shade.

They are corded (rather than hard-wire), so they will hang from the ceiling by a hook and the cords will go back down the wall behind the tank.

They were $15 each.

Be careful, try to use 2 hooks. Don't want your new lights taking a deadly bath on you.

That would suck. lol.

We are going to use anchors in the ceiling (covering the tank with a sheet while doing this), to hold a piece of birch, or the like (not sure exactly what kind yet--it's going to be scrap from Dad's work). Then we will attach the pendants to the wood in the ceiling. This will allow me to raise and lower the pendants for better light acclimation.

You could use some pulleys to raise and lower the 2x4. That would give you something to mount moonlights...

Thanks. I am going to use that idea.
