More raffle to come! This is just the tip of what we have planned!

We are making it even easier to participate in the raffle this year. If you have a smart phone, you will be able to monitor whether or not your number has been drawn. All dry good raffle items will be posted on the web. You will have until 5pm to pick them up. Meaning if you want to leave the swap, grab a bite...go to Preuss...whatever..you will be able to check if you won and return to pick up your prizes. (Any unclaimed dry good prizes will be re-raffled during our upcoming workshop...more details will be posted on that soon.)

Due to how we draw for the livestock (i.e., you pick your prize in the order it was drawn), you will need to be present to participate in the livestock raffle.

By the way, we will have food (provided by the Eagles) at MCES available for purchase as well...so it won't be necessary to leave to grab a bite. :hungry: But if you do decide to leave, at least you will be able to throw your hat in the raffle. :)

All you need now is to frag your corals.....what could be sweeter than winning this saw in the raffle?

INLAND HOBBY DFS-100 REEFKEEPER SAW (http://www.inlandhobby.com/ReefKeeper_Fragging_Saw_p/91060.htm)

As seen in Reef Hobbyist Magazine (http://www.reefhobbyistmagazine.com/archives/vol_3/issue11/pages/10.htm)! Coral fragging has just gotten easier with the ReefKeeper saw. It is made to meet the specific needs of Reef Aquarists:

- Reduced Heat Transfer Yields More Viable Frags: Heat is the enemy when cutting corals; it destroys tissue and seriously affects viability, especially with sensitive species like chalice corals. The DFS-100 ReefKeeper Saw employs a continuously cooled narrow diamond blade to dramatically reduce heat transfer to the delicate tissue when cutting. Less heat means more viable frags can become healthy colonies to swap or sell.

- Clearance to Handle Larger Specimens: Saw through materials as tall as 3 1/2" - something you can't do with cut-ff wheels, tile saws, or any other band saw. So go ahead, tackle that Tubastrea or Favites or any large specimen with confidence.

- Narrow Cutting Path: Rotary tools and tile saws plow a wide swath through your valuable stock. The narrow diamond blade of the DFS-100 ReefKeeper Saw is removing the least possible amount of material as it cuts, resulting in less waste—up to three times less!

Yes!!!! Another LED light in the raffle!!!

Orphek (http://orphek.com/led/orphek-products/dif-pendants/), an international company producing innovative LED lighting for the aquarium, has donated an Orphek DIF PENDANT SERIES 50 - 20k Reef Aquarium LED Light. This LED pendant is designed to replace your 250 MH light.

Orphek DIF PENDANT SERIES 100/50/30 – Reef Aquarium LED Lights

Revolutionary, Powerful, Efficient, Versatile, Durable

It is a fact that blue LEDs provide low lumens/watt. The Orphek R&D team invented a revolutionary emitter with a new TWO-in-ONE technology for use in the DIF Pendants Series: the first LED lighting solution mimicking a halide style light, without the addition of blue LEDs for daylight effect, offering you several color temperature options: 16000K,18000K,20000K and 25000K.

That means you won’t need to install an extra blue LED fixture to achieve a daylight effect for your tank.

Moonlight :Royal Blue,Royal Blue & UV (TWO-in-ONE )

The DIF Pendants Series are solutions for cube tank ,large reef aquariums, aquaculture facilities, and public aquariums with three different power options, and 04 interchangeable lenses in 45,60,90 and 120 degrees to choose from, according to your needs.

DIF-50 – 50 watts – Our DIF-50 fixture replaces a 250w fixture.

Depending on the lens being used, these lights are perfect for lighting large areas 24″ (or shallower), or very deep (up to 72+”) aquariums with 45,60 degree lens. By using high quality, custom ground, interchangeable optics and providing an incredibly efficient LED chip, Orphek has surmounted previous LED depth and spread hurdles and pushed LED lighting technology even further!

HIGHLIGHTS

-Two-in-One Technology mimicking a halide style light, without addition of blue LED for daylight.

-Color temperature from 14000k to 25000K (check our spectrographs and photometrics).

-Moonlight :Royal Blue,Royal Blue & UV (check our spectrographs and photometrics).

-Easy to be installed, our DIF series LED pendants are designed for plug-and-play use.

-Pendants are entirely self-contained, not requiring external ballast or fan.

-Completely rustproof, and can easily be suspended.

-Incredibly versatile, pendants are available in three power options: 100 watts, 50 watts, and 30 watts, and the lenses are easily changed between 45,60,90 and 120 degrees.

-Cool operating temperature.

-Are environmentally friendly.

ORANGE FUNGIA WITH YELLOW TENTACLES!

This is a beautiful large oragnge fungia with yellow tentacles. When we saw this coral, we knew it had to go into the swap raffle for some lucky reefer to show off in their tank!

Plate coral information: The Orange Plate Coral is a relatively hard to find coral that originates from the Indo Pacific. These corals are found free living within the rubble zones of the reef, and have the ability to inflate themselves to both maximize light exposure, and to keep from being covered in sand.

It is a solitary, semi-aggressive coral with shorter tentacles than its cousin the Long Tentacle Plate Coral (Fungia sp.). Even with short tentacles, it can still damage other corals that it comes in contact with. With placement in the aquarium, keep in mind that it will often inflate itself with water and expand to twice its size. It will do best on the bottom of a reef aquarium, preferably lying on a fine sandy substrate. The Orange Plate Coral is easy to maintain in the reef aquarium and makes an excellent candidate for the beginner reef aquarist. Care should be taken in handling it however, to prevent damage. It requires moderate lighting combined with moderate water movement within the aquarium. (info taken from LiveAquaria)

RED ACANTHOPHYLLIA WITH BLUE SKIRT

This incredible Acanthophyllia was a treasure from Reef Paradise in Flint. The picture does not do it justice as it about 6" in diameter and puffs up with intense colors when inflated.

Acanthophyllia information: Acanthophyllia is a large polyp stony (LPS) coral and often referred to as the Doughnut Coral, Cat's Eye, Tooth, Button, Teary Eye, or Meat Coral. It is a round solitary coral, one of the largest single-polyped corals found in nature today, and available in many different color forms from pastel to bright and translucent, to drab variations. .

While it is not an aggressive coral, it should be provided with adequate spacing between itself and other corals because it can expand to twice its size. It is easy to maintain in the reef aquarium and makes an excellent choice for both the beginner or advanced reef aquarist. It requires medium lighting combined with low water movement. For continued good health, it will also require the addition of calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.

It should be fed meaty foods such as micro-plankton or brine shrimp at night.(info taken from LiveAquaria)

TRACHYPHYLLIA

This is an Ultra grade Trachyphyllia brain coral with red/orange/purple & white coloration!

Trachyphyllia information: The Trachyphyllia Brain Coral is a Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral, often referred to as the Pacific Rose Coral, or an Open Brain Coral. It does best in a well established reef aquarium that incorporates moderate to strong lighting and a moderate water current within the aquarium, along with the addition of calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water. These corals prefer to be placed on a sandy substrate, with plenty of space between it and other corals, as it is sensitive to stings from its neighbors.

It contains the symbiotic algae zooxanthellae from which it receives the majority of its nutrition through photosynthesis. They also benefit from occasional feedings of meaty items, like shrimp, clam and squid. They should only be offered food when the tentacles are fully expanded, which is typically during the night time hours. (info taken from LiveAquaria)

MORE LIVESTOCK FOR THE RAFFLE!!

This Catalaphyllia Coral is absolutely elegant!! It is a large green specimen with different color tips.

Catalaphyllia information: The Catalaphyllia Elegance Coral is a large polyp stony (LPS) often referred to as Elegant Coral, Wonder Coral, or Ridge Coral. It is truly the most unique and interesting stony coral known. Its polyps are extended during the day showing off its vast array of color-tipped tentacles. Under actinic lighting, the fluorescent qualities are beautiful with lime green, blue, orange, or purple-tipped tentacles which vary between branched or round and bulbous shapes. The most common color variety available to aquarists is gold with pink or purple-tipped polyps.

The Catalaphyllia Elegance Coral is moderate to maintain in the reef aquarium and makes an excellent choice for the beginner to expert hobbyist. Provide ample space in the aquarium between it and other neighboring corals as it will expand to twice its usual size during the day and will sting other corals in close proximity to it. It is best to place the skeleton of the coral into a soft substrate. The soft substrate is less likely to irritate the fleshy underside of the coral when compared to the rockwork. Clownfish may accept this coral as its host if no anemone is present. Use caution when handling, as it is very fragile and can also sting its handler. (info taken from LiveAquaria)

TWO ACANTHASTREA CORALS donated by Cherry Corals!!

Everyone will be envious of you if you are lucky enough to win either of these wildly colored acans. Actual frags not pictured. (Same morphs 3 to 4 polyps, Each frag Valued @ $150 to $200)

Coral information: Acanthastrea generally have large corallites (8-15mm) with small teeth or lobes on their septa, as well as well-developed columellae. In the wild, they're found mostly in shallow water to about 20m, often in protected areas like lagoons, forming colonies up to several meters across.

In the reef aquarium, Acanthastrea are incredibly hardy and fast growing, tolerating a wide variety of conditions, including both low and moderate lighting and moderate water currents. They make ideal candidates for fragging at home, since they have such distinct corallites (less risk of collateral damage!), amazing adaptability to lighting conditions, and rapid growth rates.

Be aware that Acanthastrea are voracious nocturnal predators and competitively extrude mesenterial filaments and digest organisms within reach. Great care must be taken in determining the placement and distance between colonies. Target feed minced meaty foods and zooplankton for best growth and frag recovery time. The use of a quality protein skimmer helps maintain water quality and combat the effects of heavy feeding. (information from LiveAquaria.com)

BRIGHT GREEN SINULARIA CORAL donated by Tom@HaslettMI.

This generous donation from Tom is a very bright green sinularia that Tom has been growing for a while. The coral will be a branch from the coral shown in the picture below.....does not include the clown that is hosting in it!

Coral Information:
Sinularia corals are similar in shape to colt corals (Cladiella) and tree corals (Nepthea). Sinularia corals can be identified by the fact that the growth originates from a single heavy stalk unlike Nepthea and the polyps are less feathery than in colt corals. Green Sinularia is a very attractive bright greenish yellow in color. The intensity of the coloration is affected by the amount of lighting the coral receives. The branches are covered with small polyps.

Hardiness: Sinularia is very hardy and tolerates a range of conditions. On occasion, a specimen will start dissolve in one or more spots as shown in the picture above. The cause is unknown. The best approach if this occurs is to cut out the bad portion of the coral.

Lighting: While Sinularia will tolerant lower lighting levels, it does best under intense lighting. The specimen shown here is growing under 10K 400W MH lamps. It has also been grown very successfully under standard 175W mercury vapor lighting.

Water Current: Sinularia likes moderate water flow. Seem to do well under wave maker water conditions where the branches get swayed gently back and forth.

Temperature: Does well within a range of at least 75 to 84 degrees F.

Aggressiveness: Moderate. Although they do not seem to directly sting neighbors, their proximity to some other coral can cause the other corals to recede. The specimen here is in direct contact with a hammer coral and neither coral seems to harm the other. Sheer size as the specimen grows can also tend to shadow its neighbors.

Feeding: Sinularia are photosynthetic and does not require direct feeding. Unknown if they would take any form of phytoplankton or zooplankton. (information from reefcorner.com)

Premium Aquatics Refractometer

http://premiumaquatics.com/prodimages/images/REFRACT-PA-K.jpg
The Premium Aquatics dual scale portable Salinity Refractometer in a Gray hard case. The RHS series of portable refractometers is designed to measure the salinity of sea water and saline solutions of similar concentration. One scale checks the Salinity levels with the range of 0-100 ppt (with 1 ppt scale divisions) and the other scale gauges Specific Gravity with a range of 1.000 to 1.070 (+/- 0.001 accuracy). Both enable the direct determination of salinity in water that contains dissolved salt and little or no other dissolved solids.
Hydrometers are nice, but they can be inaccurate, especially over time. The RHS-10ATC is designed to be very accurate to protect your investments!

The unit comes with the ATC suffix which is equipped with Automatic Temperature Compensation for accurate measurements without recalibration after shifts in ambient working temperature (field use). The ambient temp range for ATC is 50-86F (10-30C). If the temp is outside the range (warmer for example), the readings will become gradually inaccurate the further the temp is away from the 50-86'F range.
