Well after much worth while thought my lovely wife woke up this morning and packed all her frags up and took them to the LFS.She proudly ordered another stingray and two puffers and instructed me to grab a 50# bag of cariban sand and explained to me how much I really wanted to replumb her 40 gallon frag tank and set it up for rays and her future puffers. Arghhhh !!!!! Good thing I don't like to watch football(I thinks it's time to try it tho)So I'll post some before and after shots tomorrow. yipee what a great idea LOL

Very cool! Is that a yellow stingray?
Will the puffers not bite the rays ?
Best of luck! Keep us posted.

Puffers will bite rays.
40 Gallons is too small for any ray.

My thoughts exactly...... ESPECIALLY on the 40g is waaaaaaay to small for any ray!
they are sea of cortez ray's.We.ve had one for six months already. The biggest it will get is 6 to 8 inches in dia..Consider them mini ray's and seems very content and eats from her hands even,She ordered porci puffers the shouldn't be an issue IMO

People put tangs in biocubes and they look and seem happy.... dont make it right or mean its good for them
ok, well you spoke your mind.I've been doing this over twenty years so I think the 40 breader with no rock work will provide plenty of space so thanks for your input. This is allot diffrent then your example and well it's kind of a lame one too honestly,I'll have a hart to hart with the ray and see how it feels about it's enviroment.Feel better?? LOL

A 40 breeder should provide enough space. At least for now.
How big are the rays now?

I'd be afraid the puffers would go for the ray's eyes...

Often the tank size suggestions are for full grown adults.
These rays may take a few years to reach adult size. Even then 180 gallons for a ten inch total length ray is more than adequate. As a standard 180 is 24 inches wide. These size suggestions do not take into account water flow and improved filtration or waterchanges.

You sir are the voice of reason in this thread, took the words outa my mouth.
Chort, rays are stationary 90% of the time, therefore your tang analogy is irrelevant.
These rays are very small and inactive, I've dealt with them before.

Yea but the rays studied were fully grown. You can acquire specimens in the trade with a <8" diameter.

BTW, if you don't believe me on the whole putting something in a much more confined area will greatly reduce its movement, I recently removed a 2.5-3" 3 stripe damsel from my 180g tank and placed it in a 24x24x12 30g tank.... it used to cruise the entire 180 harrassing anyone it could, now he just chills under the same rock all day long. But hey if u don't believe me I have an extra closet i wouldn't mind renting out for a while lol
Perhaps the recent move might have caused some of the shyness? It must have been really stressful to remove it from a 180...

Didn't your damsel go through the same chain of custody?
Or did it just magically appear at your LFS one day.
I've dealt with these in a 750 gallon tank, and:
1. I've never seen one over 8"
2. The only time I saw it move more than a foot was for feeding.
