So I am starting up a 75gal mixed reef tank and I am not sure what direction to go on the substrate. I have been thinking sand but have concerns about the never ending blowing of it. I have also considered the starboard but don't like the fact that I can't have burrowing critters. so I am kinda back to the old standby crushed coral. Just wondered others opinion.

Pink aragonite comes in several sizes :) NO crushed coral! The sand may blow around at first but after it gets weighed down with age it'll settle. However it does get tossed quit a bit with burrowing gobys.

I agree don't go with crushed coral, it will become a nitrate factory eventually. Another tip when making your choice is don't bother with ' live sand' it is not needed and a extra cost to an expensive hobby :)

Its personal opinion. What looks good to you?
Personally I have 330 lbs of Southdown aragonite sugar sand in a 100G at 5-6" deep.
It has been in the tank 9 years, never been vacuumed or cleaned, does not shift or move unless something digs it up and is as white as the day I installed it.
Others like a shallow decorative sand bed which also looks nice. Its really up to you as to what grain size and how much but I do know the finer grains support more colonizing bacteria and snails and sanbed critters thrive in it.
