im going to try a reef safe product called kick ich to obviously kill
the ich in the tank...it says to turn the skimmer off and not use
carbon filters, would i be able to run my millenium filters w/o carbon
while having the skimmer off?

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#yeah.....the idea is to remove the carbon and skimmer because they will remove the "treatment chemical" very quickly and reduce its effectiveness......just remember that without the carbon and skimmer, youwill have changed the dynamics of the ecosystem (filtering) so keep a watch on paramaters.......:)#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

I turned the skimmer off, and took the carbon filters out of the milleniums and my watchman goby died, and my chromis are sick and now in QT with copper. I need to make some serious tank set-up changes....I shouldn't even be running a hang on filter with a saltwater tank....I have no room for a sump....and suggestions for new tank equipment that would help improve my water quality are needed...
Are there any hang on sumps, or anything that would work well that i could use? Also, i've been using regular tap water and putting dechlor and salt for my water and i need a good freshwater purifier. So if you can help me with any of these things it would be greatly appreciated...

This will work well for you and provide natural filtration with Live Rock, Live Sand and Macro Algae (All sold seperately). It's a great place to gro pods that alot of your fish will eat as well.#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#Also, Kick Ich is a 50/50 shot at best. I just recently went through treatment with it and lost my Mandarinfish & the Coral Beauty Angel. The Angel was the only one that had ICH. None of my other fish ever showed signs of it. I will NOT use this again. In fact, I have 3/4 of a bottle I will sell if anyone wants it.#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#There is NO such thing as a Reef Safe Ich Cure! Quarantine any new fish for 4-6 weeks in a seperate QT tank and treat with Copper to be safe! Do NOT use copper on any inverts, Corals, Worms, Feather Dusters(worm) or crabs. This way you will never have to worry about getting ICH in your display tank!#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#I am very sorry about your losses. I wish I had seen this sooner to help you before this happened. Best thing to do now is tear down the reef, placing all your live rock in buckets of tank water until you can catch all the fish. Put them in a QT tank and treat with Copper. Rebuild your reef after you get the fish in QT and in 4-6 weeks the ICH in the Display tank will die not having a host (fish) to keep it alive.#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#It's alot of work but well worth it to save your animal friends.#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#P#ed_cl#Keri#ed_op#/P#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

I got ich in my freshwater tank about a year ago.......I went with the "feed well and let things work themselves out" method.....the affected fish healed up perfectly and didn't lose a single inhabitant.........to me letting nature take care of its self is the only way to cure most things.......

Can you give me a site for a CPR packpack style refugium? I'm not sure what that is and also i have about 5 inches of free space behind my aquarium so will it fit? And also, will the refugium include all the parts needed for set-up...also would i be able to get a wet-dry filter, they seem to do alot of stuff I have no clue about,...haha but they look cool.

I use a Wet/Dry and I like it. My skimmer is in the sump of the Wet/Dry. I would not use the Bio Balls most come with though as they trap Nitrates. I have a Wet/Dry for sale if you want one.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Will post right back with a link#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Ok, now say i get a wet/dry, will i need my dual and single filters running as well or can i just use the wet dry? And also, what are the things that you need to keep buying to keep the wet/dry running? (Like how in a millenium u need to replace the carbon filters)

ReefNeck
01-02-2006, 05:29 PM
#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#You don't have to keep buying anything for a Wetdry. I replace the spong prefilters about every 6 months but wash them out the rest of the time. And if the pump dies, replace it. Thats about it.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Is a wet dry the same as a refugium?

systemfan15
01-02-2006, 05:38 PM
Also, repeating my other question...can i remove the dual filter and put the wet/dry in its place? Should i still leave the single millenium running?

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#No, A Wet/Dry does not have the space for a sand bed. they do have room for skimmers and heaters though to get those out of the tank.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

ReefNeck

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Yes, Personally....I would get a refugium over a wet/dry (Not good at selling my own stuff am I). The refugium will benefit a reef tank alot more than a Wet/Dry will.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Ok, so....i can put the refugium in place of the dual millenium hang-on filters and leave a single millenium running or what would u recommend. I have 2 single and 1 dual millenium so u can make me a set-up so i have an idea :-) lol... O, btw u should be glad your not a good salesman...ur honest...haha. Its not that i wouldn't want it, its that i've had bad luck with used equipment. Not saying yours isn't in tip top shape....i just would trather get something new. Thanks for your help though.

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#No problem, I would never sell anyone junk. Bad for my Rep but I understand. Fact is a Fuge really is better. I would get the Fuge and do away with both powerfilters. The return pump from the fuge would provide some circulation which I would supplement with a Powerhead or 2 in the tank. #ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#What size tank are we working with again?#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

So...what else do I need for this refugium, I have a seaclone 100 skimmer to put in the refugium. And i have a aqua clear 30 powerhead...

And can you tell me what you would do ....lol THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HELP...!~#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Ok, 55G is good (What I have).#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I would put Live Sand in the main Fuge compartment alone with Cheato & Mangroves. Some Nassarius snails and maybe one Blue Leg Hermit Crab( Wait a while to add these so they wont starve). I would search for and put Live Rock Rubble in the side where the water from the tank comes in. The water will come in, Flow through the LR Rubble, Into the Fuge, Then into the skimmer compart, Skimmed and back to the tank.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I would put a SEIO m820 on one side of the tank blowing across and a SEIO m820 on the other side wall blowing across. This coupled with your return pump from the fuge will give you excellent circulation.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#BTW, Your link didn't work so I can't see the fuge you chose. :(#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I just did some digging around because Marinedepot is not real specific on what it comes with. The fuge does not come with a light. You will need one on it. You will have to get it seperately. Nothing real fancy, Just small enough to sit on top. Normal Output (NO) or PC's are plenty.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
