Has anyone visited http://www.talkingreef.com ? It is a great little podcast sight! I got an Ipod for Christmas and with 20G available, I'll never own enough music to fill it. I found this podcast searching for "reef aquaria" under the itunes program. It's pretty darned good!

Some of it is basic, beginner information. Other topics are very detailed and more tailored for the salt guru. The owner has another show/ interview with Steven Pro.

In any case, I found it to be interesting and informative and thought that some of my Captive Pals would like it.

Happy New Year!

Thank you much Dakar!

It is a great little find eh? Makes my ride back and forth to work (1 hour each way) a little more tolerable!

before I download it.....can it be listened to on the computer? I don't have an Ipod. My wife does, but I would rather just have it on my computer to listen to. Thanks for the info. -DIRT

UPDATE! I've been invited to be a guest on the TalkingReef podcast. Before the end of the week, Rob will be publishing an episode about the use of Natural Sea Water in our systems. He happened to know that I, and others in my area, are doing this. We recorded last night. I'm stoked to help him with this project!

Furthermore, we have made tentative plans for another podcast on the subject of keeping Hippocampus Reidi, the Braizilian Seahorse. It should be out in February.

Check it out: www.talkingreef.com

You aren't being a wuss... you have quite a valid reason to be excited! :D Congrats!

Celebrity  dunno about that...

I'm so NOT the type to do something like this..but when I saw the "charter" of the podcast, and how many folks it has helped out thus far, I had to do it.

My contribution to the cyber-reefs of the world ;)

Seems to me this DavidP guy that we asked to host the forum for Seahorses, is quite the celebrity of his own right!

Dave, you worked hard on the research to start your own pony tank, and look at what you've accomplished!! We are certainly proud to have you as a member & staff member as well. I can't help but ask you....... Did you happen to plug Captive Reefing when you did the interview? My goodness, If you did... people will be flocking here just to talk to the expert that they heard on that radio show. Not to mention the traffic YOU would draw to the site!! Oops, did I say that out loud? Seriously though, I think humans have a need to feel like they know someone who is special. It tends to make them feel better about themselves somehow. There will be some people that really get into "talking to the expert", and to have access to you....wow....you may have to quit your job to keep up.

I see book deals & signings, more radio & TV talk shows, then your own specialized TV show rated #1 on all the networks, Dave can be your agent and handle that end for you. Then you could just sit back, take care of whatever size tanks you've ever dreamt about having, not to mention the coolest of sea creatures living inside your "glass tank walls"! People will of course want to tour the mansion, and Dave and I promise that we'll keep our wing is kept properly. We'd really like the glass tank walls on our wing too, if you don't mind. I'm really getting excited...uh...for you of course! I'll set up your public appearances at Reef Organizations all over the world. We'll tour with you to make sure no one takes advantage of you! Of course, all your airfare, hotels, the finest wines served in the most expensive crystal (not purchased on EBay either!), :lol:7 course meals made by the finest chefs just hoping that you grace them as their personal guest! Red carpet will roll out at you step out of your limo anywhere you go & you'll be stylishly dressed in good jeans and a Captive Reefing T-shirt. The sales on
T-shirts will go through the roof since you are the fashion trend setter, and we'll be able to live off the profits from the t-shirt sales. Think of the servants willing to give you what ever you need at the blink of an eye (of course they'll be all beautiful intelligent women....only the very best for you by all means! If you want, I can lay it on even thicker, and add some more polish if you'd like!

In all seriousness though, the greatest thing for many people is to feel that they've actually talked to someone like you, and you've got a personality that makes people feel like they're important to you. Those who meet you, and those of us on Captive Reefing who have the privilege of knowing you through chatting and sharing your tanks great successes and even the low points. People have a fond respect for you, and are confident with any knowledge you pass on. That's sure is a great way to be thought of, and whether you realize it or not, there's many here at CR. To mushy....yeah I know. That's me, the book style way I post...yamma, yamma, yamma...I do send to be that way, sharing all those feelings all the time. Soon we'll be hearing that YOU are going to be the guest speaker at reef conferences all over the place. You can plan on all of us here at Captive Reefing to support you all the way! Please tape the show so we can make it into an mp3 to put on the board so everyone can listen to that interview, and any future ones too? :) That would be awesome to really "hear" you speak all that you know!! Knowing you, you're probably thinking that having the opportunity to do that interview was the luck of the draw. Maybe it was a case of you being in the right place at the right time, but you were asked to do more? Now that just didn't happen on it's own. As for your upcoming interview.... you don't get asked again unless the first one was pretty darn good!

Everything good in life starts like a small grain of sand. Some sand blows away, some stays with the rest of the sand where it originally lay, and then there's sand that grows, bumps here and there but, little by little...and then becomes a solid rock that has the ability to keep growing, and perhaps be a boulder one day! Congrats Dave! Keep up the great work and ROCK ON! :) .......Angel :angel2:

Doooh... it's been published http://www.talkingreef.com/ ...Do I really sound that "geeky" in person?

This podcast covers the subject of using Natural Sea Water in Marine Aquariums. The Boston Reefers got the plug this time.

The next show (in and around Feb 22) will be about Hippocampus Reidi. At that time, I will certainly let people know about CR and Seahorse.org.

Thanks for the kind words...Now go listen to the MP3 and tell me what you think?

J..

It's a real controversial topic. Not as bad as DSB -vs- Shallow or bare bottom, but controversial none the less.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was just an account of MY use of NSW. I'm not sure if there is any real experience or knowledge of the topic outside of my personal use. Who knows, I could be "off my rocker" for practicing the use of NSW.

Again, the pony show will show experience and knowledge. It's SOOO much easier to talk about somthing that you are passionate about.

Thanks for the nice words.

Miami, FL I got very nice tropical waters here, my friend collects it for me and he highly recommends getting it when the tide is comign IN so all that fresh/clean ocean water is coming and thats what your getting. The last 30 gallons he got me were super super clear, with very little cloudiness (silt) if any.

Dave and I listened to your interview on Podcast today! You did great! Pretty cool idea the host has their. One thing your broadcast did to me, was make me jealous that we don't have access to sea water. That sure would help save $$$ especially when you have multiple tanks in your care. Bummer for us You did good though. I look forward to hearing your next interviews! It's neat to put the voice with the face Dave, and you didnt sound like a "wuss" like you said you did! :)

Hey Dave...Labman... You are correct! Rob is a joy to work with. No need to even "Check an ego at the door", the dude doesn't have a big ego. He's in this for the hobby..and it shows.

For what it's worth...My next shared project with Rob will be released some time today... it may be what SOME of you are looking for... a review of my successes with Hippocampus Reidi, the Brazilian Seahorse.

www.talkingreef.com

I've been eagerly awaiting this one for some time now. I still sound like a geek, but at least I was able to put out good information about H. Reidi.
