I wonder if anyone out there would be willing to share ideas or techniques on aquascaping. What kinds of structures are you guys & gals building and how? In my 12 gal I went to petco and got those plastic sections that look like Roman columns and mixed those in with Tonga branch to elevate the rest of the live rock off of the sand bed. Looks pretty cool! Good water flow and looks a little like an aquatic archeology site. I need some new ideas for the 75 I'm working on so let' hear em. 8)

I shot for having a variety of caves, flat ledges, and overhangs. This gives you options on where to place corals and the fishes a places to hid. A 75 has quite a bit of room (I have one too) so you can go with a variety of different styles. I have been meaning to take a few shots of mine anyways , so maybe tonight I can try to post one.

do the plastic sections cause a problem with algae or anything in a salt water tank? i have noticed in the past when i have had fresh tanks that it seemed to amp. the growth. i had an eclipse tank with a baby oranda and as soon as i added the sponge bob figs. the algae went nuts. or at least that is what the guy at the store told me caused it anyway.

Hey I had that idea! Please post pics. I don't know if that causes more algae but it may cause you to notice it more.

Shad, the pic looks awesome!!

and as for the aquascaping ideas. you are the artist that is painting the picture. it will take some trial and error. I have literally rescaped my tanks tons of times just trying to get it right. that is all I can suggest.

Thanks. Hopefully this gives you some ideas. Just try for something that gives you a lot of options for frag placement.

One thing that really help achieve an open aquascape is the use of Tonga branch Liverock.Another method i plan on employing is useing 1/2" PVC as dowels to join LR together as well as to suspend it up and off the substrate.Drilling 1/2" holes in the LR and useing underwater epoxy will secure the PVC dowels to the LR.
