Will cyano grow on the glass high up on the side of the tank? I have a dark red to purple, ( actually looks like dried blood), spot on the glass. It is not fluffy or anything. The Turbo snail went around it and now it looks like it is trying to flake off in one spot. Sorry I can't get a pic because it is to dark to see with the camera. Could this be Coraline?

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Steve

What is the texture? If's it feels dry and hard it's coraline, if it's slimey feeling it's cyano, it will generally come off the glass easily where coraline will take some effort to be removed.

Update:

Well I went to see if it would come off and it come off very easily. The stuff, once it was out, looked black. It was more stringy than slimey and it would not smear when pressed between my fingers. Kinda makes me nervous. This stuff was right buy a power head also. Doesn't cyano dislike movement?

I would guess to say that it is some sort of algae, not necesarily cyno but some sort of diatom bloom. is that the only place you have it growing or is it starting to grow on the rock and substrate. that is usually where cyno will start to bloom

Yep, that is the only spot and now it is almost gone since I was seeing how it felt. I will keep a lookout for it but for now it is nowhere near the snad or rocks.
