Fish keep DIEING

Hello there all, I am new to these forums and i personally have a 58 show reef with no problems ... however, i have a friend who seems to be doing everything right but his fish keep dieing. Three weeks ago he lost a powder brown, yellow and a pacific sailfin tang. yesterday he lost two percula clowns, THe only fish he has left is a lone perc that appears to be ok. He also has somem pepermint shrimp and dwarf red leg hermits as well as 6 mexican turbos. Any suggestions are welcome and if you need any more info post and ill get back ASAP thanks much

whoops let me finish this..... any new additions to the tank or anything being done diff in the last little while that would bring on this??? How long has the tank been set up???? a little history on the tank would help better diagnose the problem

Tank has been set up for about three months. No nothing different the tangs all died after being in the tank for about three days and two of the percs were in there for about two weeks but remember the percs died four weeks after the tangs... He has two powerheads w/ venturi running a rena fillstar xp 3 rated up 175 gallons it is a 90 gallon tan. Prizm pro skimer 40 lbs of rock, doing 10% water changes weekly with ro water and osmoprep adding iodine and cycle weekly. Instant ocean salt @ 1.023 pH 8.4 , ammonia = 0, nitrite = 0, nitrate = 20, 30 lbs live sand and aragonite, 77 degrees F oh yeah and no ... no real signs of illness... he did note however that at night the clowns would kind of burrow themselves into the sand bed and in the morning after the lights were on they would come out and have white spots like ich BUT the spots would go away within six hours or so and they ate fine and seemed healthy (as well as the tangs)

that is still a fairly young tank. I would let it mature a little while longer. and then add fish slowly. the only thing I can think of is the biological filtration could not handle the load. and could use some more liverock

That sounds like a lot of fish for a 58 gallon tank
may have contributed to the problems with a young tank

no jerry the tank with the problems is a 90 and yes i think it could use another 50 lbs of rock too... any other thought are welcome as well

OK don't read that right.......
But I'm with Graph leave it empty for awhile or at least don't add to it

would you guys recomend using carbon in this tank... i know alot of people dont because you loose a lot of trace elements ... but.. wouldnt it be nice to help remove some of the wastes??? i personally use it but this friend with problems doesnt. just a thought

I thank carbon is good to use occasionally in most all tanks
Especially in mixed tanks or high fish loads
