Seeing as Mandarins are scaleless (not sure if it matters) will Flat worm exit be harmful to him? I'm beginning to see them again and want to treat a.s.a.p.

FWIW - I dosed FWE a couple years ago and my Mandarin was and is fine. Just follow the directions. :)

I just killed EVERY SINGLE FISH in my tank with FWE this week.... BE SUPER CAREFUL. In retrospect, I would have removed the fish prior to treatment.

I did everything according to the book with the treatment. I have used FWE in the past several times without much issue....the only thing I can think is there were a lot more worms than before this time around, even despite my siphoning what I could out prior to treatment.

Frankly I am having one of those "why am I doing this hobby moments" today...as I look at a line up of dead fish bodies sitting next to my tank. Not to mention a bunch of really ticked off corals. :(

Awwww Jim I'm soooooo sorry :angelsad::crying: I totally understand your feelings right now :shake-head: Wish I could do something..... This news breaks my heart and puts fear in there too.....

The last time I used it, I double dosed with great results. Actually I wasn't even aware of how many worms I actually had in there until I treated and they began floating throughout the tank. Scared the crap outta me!!! I started netting within minutes and was doing a water change within 20 minutes. I'm going to try the same thing this time. I hate using chemicals of any kind..even 2 part but my tank is just to small for any of the natural predators available :(

Yeah I would have had the "go ahead, doesn't seem to harm anything besides flatworm answer" because I have used it with no issues before.

Wow sorry to read that. The fw do create a toxin they release when they die. You must have allot of worms !! This is tthe first time of reading of a complete die off from this product. Guess if I use this again it will be fishing time befor treatment! Thanks for the heads up Jim

Looks like both my sexy shrimp croaked as well. Other inverts seem to be hanging in there.

Sorry 'bout all your fish, Jim. I feel the same way about some of these products. You can use it once and have it work just perfectly with no adverse impact. At some point the treatment is needed again, you assume it will work as it did before, and all of a sudden you have a significant problem. I have come to believe that any "quick fix" additive should only be used as last resort and with extreme caution.

Unless someone has another remedy, I've no choice. My tank is to small for any type of natural predator.

Yeah I agree...but had tried everything I could think of to deal with the flat worms...including just leaving them alone. But their numbers had reached epic proportions and were tormenting some of the corals...not because I think they were eating them, but because they were covering them up they were so thick.

I'm not sure if it is the worms or the FWE that killed the fish. I have heard it is the worms dying and releasing "a toxin"....rather than the FWE directly killing them.

Either way, I think I will treat again tonight or tomorrow just to be sure I got them all this time. Not as much to lose this time around anyways. :tear:

:
You're right - It's not the FWE directly but rather a toxin given off by the dying flat worms. Just be ready with lots of GAC and a large water change.
