Very cool tank! I like your scaping. Any plans for other livestock? Fish, inverts, corals? Some rics or gorgs would go well in there. A goby or two would be cool.

its going to be dragonfaced pipefish, when i can get my hands on them. and when i can afford a chiller, i want to get a pair of H. erectus seahorses.

Seahorses would be awesome. I thought you needed more water and millions of pods to keep pipefish though.
dputt88
08-15-2012, 10:44 AM
mostly more water to support messy eating (just like seahorses), which my filters are give me a rating of more than 100g (in my 30 gal). and yes there are tons of pods. i the rock work was a mess of small pieces of live rock all piled up, then i put the pieces of lace rock around it to look nice. so the rock work is essentially all small tunnels and such that the pipe fish cant get to, this is my pod breeding grounds. also the dense macros have been housing alot of pods, especially the barbata, they seem to like hiding in its forest.

That's a cool tank. Any thoughts of adding seagrass eventually?

so im thinking since the pipefish are taking so long to find that i would just order the sea horses when i get back from vacation. its about that time of year where i dont have to worry about a chiller. but by main concern is if im going to have the finds to buy a chiller before next summer. i guess i will have quite some time to save up and buy a good used one before then.
so whos excited for seahorses???
oh and im not so sure im going with H. erectus anymore. been seeing alot of pic of what people have been getting for their own tanks. they are a lot more plain than the ones that are pictured from vendors. i knew they were typically black, but i though they would have some grey patterning on them too. oh well i was thinking about going with kudas. opinions?

they are great, when they arent eating they are always within an inch of eachother if they arent touching. i can really see why it isnt suggested to only keep one.

I whip up some fertilizers when the tests show low nutrients. Other than that I use the marineland aquatic plant leds

What fertilizers?
You have a sump? skimmer? Looking forward to hearing more some time.
This tank is very interesting.
dputt88
09-25-2012, 11:05 PM
No sump, no skimmer. Just a c3 and c4 filter. A korailia nano for extra flow. Right now im using calcium nitrate pellets that i bought in bulk. I plan on finding something to use for adding phosphate because im readyfor these plant to boom. Right now phosphate is my limiting nutrient. I havent had it detectable since i added my first plants.

just wanted to share this video of one of my new pipefish eating. this guy is a crazy hunter. he is the only pipefish i own that can attack full grown adult amphipods. he is truely a voracious eater when it come to pipefish. please forgive the small bout of GHA in the macro tank.

hatching brine is really easy, just remember they are only very nutritious for a few hours after hatching, though your scooter adn others will always benefit from them.
tisbe is a great pod as well, i was considering getting some to begin a culture in the near future.
