Nitrates = nutrients right ?

My question is.... Will a skimmer set on a wet skim help shrink these nitrate numbers down. My nitrates are hovering around 10ppm, and I would just LOVE to get em' to 0. How much of the nitrate levels are effected by the skimmer if any at all ?

RG

PS I'm doing about a 5 gal H2O change ever 2 weeks for about 65 gals of volume.

A skimmer should help with your nitrates. Skimmers pull organic material out of the water. This is the same material that will cause nitrate problems.

Reefgeek, a wet skimmate is better for phosphate reduction but skimming period is a very good way to reduce nitrates by removing the extra organic material before it has a chance to break down into nitrates. 10 ppm is very good, and no offense, doubt you'll ever get them down to zero unless you employ mangroves, macro algaes, a very high quality skimmer, increase the frequency and amount of water changes, and reduce your feeding. Much easier to write than to actually do.

Also, is there a way to disable this cow spell checker. Very slow and annoying.

KG,

Thanks....

Im down to 5 ppm so Im satisfied with that. I have macro, and a ER CS 80 skimmer, That thing is doing awesome !!! I will continue to do H2O changes bi-weekly and I think Im content with that !

Thanks for the info and help... you guys rock !

No problem. That's a great reading. I'd be pleased.
