I traded for a Sea Clear 200g tank yesterday! I'm told its a 200g. I had been in salt water for a long time started back in 1997 but when I moved 6 yrs ago for a job I got out of it knowing I probably will get back into it later on. Wife and I talked about it for last few years and I kept putting it off due to renting. Last year on my birthday I went and drove a few hrs one way after seeing pics of a oceanic tank and was going to get it till I got there and it was badly scratched up. I wasted $100.00 that day in gas and expenses oh was I mad. It took my whole off day for the trip too! Since then I figured we would wait till we bought a house then get back into it so I been putting it off.
I've had oceanic natureview 125g for long time and always wanted a 135g or bigger. I also had a 80g oceanic also. I had moved and sold the big tank and kept the 80g. I dabbled in reef but never got my tank going strong in reef. I had a 20h that I tried plaing with also but it just would not stay stable. It was a roller coaster ride doing good then not and back and forth. I knew the tank was not ideal but got it cheap used. My 125g was my fish tank. I got fustrated with the 80g and just got burned out I think.
Almost got a 8' believe 240g or 280g years ago that I found new and it was a good deal. It just did not have a stand so I did not get it. I still wished I gotten it and may get one later after I buy a house next year.
So Anyway I traded a marble table for the Sea Clear tank, stand, wet dry sump and pump. It was up and running he had bought it 3 months before that and bought it used. Its got some scratches but not to bad just one that really stands out and I want to fix it. While its broken down I would like to polish it if I can to fix it but I know nothing about doing that. This is the first acrylic tank for me. The guy had 2 other tanks setup in his living room besides this one. We broke it down and it sure did take some time. I will show a pic when I can. I would love a reeef but this one be better suited as a fish tank I think. The hardest pert will be cleaning it as I'm short and its real tall. It has one set of T-5 bulbs for light. I will have to build a nice hood and put a bunch of T-5's and fans in. I would hate to put a lot of rocks in it and not be able to get them out or really scratch up the tank. I prefer glass tanks as I never scratched mine up badly as I know these can get done easy.I bought a used 55g today toput in my sons room as the guy gave me a wrasse. I forgot what it is and have not found a pic of it on here. We will do the 55g as saltwater and get a few fish till I buy a house and set the big one up.
I know nothing about Sea Clear tanks or there lifetime warranty policy, and I want to know what it covers and is it for purchaser or who ever owns the tank against leaks or ect.
Opinions and Ideas on which way to go fish or reef? I love reef and have the time for it just not had a lot of good luck I guess. I tried very hard. My son would like a reef in the 55g so may do it as a starter reef not decided yet. Sorry for the long wind I figured I might as well tell a little about me and my experiences. I'm excited about the tank trade for sure glad my wife made the deal happen. I may have to get another tank (like a 40L breeder tank) to get into fragging as I know I would enjoy it until I can get my big tank going. Whats smallest tank you suggest to grow frags? I'm not new at this thats for sure. Thanks, Danny.

Hi Danny, welcome to CR! Congrats on the new tank, great trade IMO :)
Those scratches are pretty easy to remove. You can find the kits to do it at BulkReefSupplys.com or maybe even one of our sponsors sell them.
Make sure you have a nice sturdy step stool handy and you'll be fine. It's what I use :)

Wow, that's a sweet trade. What are the dimensions of the tank?

If you've got the time and the wallet I would go reef with the 55. It would make a good "practice" tank until your ready for the big upgrade to the 200 gallon.

Tank is 36" high, 41" wide, 26" deep on the ends (front to back) but 30" deep in the center since its a bow front tank. It has a sump drain area in the back and plumping runnins out the bottom there.

The wet dry sump I did not see a name on it but bet its same brand but just don't know. Demensions are 36" long, 18" high, and 12" deep front to back.

I really want to do reef but not till I buy a house cause I would not want to move it once a reef is setup.

I only had $500 in the table bought it used and it was original a 2k table I was told from who had got it from there family member who bought it new.

I do not know brand of pump but its bigger than a little giant size 5 ot 7 I had. Its model 12B utility pump kinda looks like a giant dont think it is. Heavy.Says E160713 listed 8C9,9 110 watts/1.5 amps.

I love that tank!! Partial to bow fronts myself, seeing as I'm running one :) Definitely no issues with my lights covering everything.

MizTanks, What lights you running? What lights you recommend? I never used T5 bulbs and not read up on them yet so don't know if they are that good of choice maybe SWF only but not sure and thinking reef they might not be enough even if I ran the whole top with them. Maybe halide bulbs? Electric bill be higher then, lol.

I do agree its not perfect tank especially for cleaning. I would normally never buy a tank like this but I traded for it ad have no money tied up in it yet. Its not for big fish. I had big fish in my old 125g and prefer for this to keep fish that normally will stay smaller anyway, except for tangs and triggers. Before I am done I will have a SWF and a Reef tank anyway as I like both. My favorite fishes like I use to have and the ones I want I never had yet will have there places hence reason for 2 big tanks.

My tank is 21" I'm running 4x24w T5HO all ATI lamps, only coral I'm NOT keeping are sps. Everything else thrives under these lights. I even have a Tridacna Corcea clam just under 11" from the lights. Which the lights sit 4" off the waters surface.

I had a 85g and a 125g with a lot of light on them so not really worried about the electric bill and water changes. I was referring to if I had to use like halide lighting as I can see it being higher electric bill to get the lighting needed to the bottom, lol. I know nothing about led lighting. What lighting should I go with? I am interested in LED too.

Anyone know what pump and wet dry I got in the pics? I'm thinking its a long the line of a Danner mag drive 1200 GPH pump.

It is definitely a Mag Drive pump. The model "12B" makes me think it's a Mag 12 (1200 GPH) but I'm not 100% sure on that. Mag Drive pumps are high quality and long lasting... good score.

I had a giant mag drive on my 125g tank long ago and it never wore out over the 8 to 9 yrs owning it. This one the body has a different looking metal housing and the cone guard is different. The part number matches what I found online but it does not look exactly the same in pics. Its marked 12B, so I do know its a mag pump and it should be a good pump. Looks like I will get 4.75 maybe little over 5 cycles to 5.25 cycles a hour out of it.

Now to figure out what wet dry acrylic or plexiglass sump I got. I will have to get me a protien skimmer to sit in the sump for it also. Money wise I'm looking at the Reef Ocyopus 200. Any others in price range that compares? I would like the thicker made ones if possible.

Awesome looking tank! Those are really unusual dimensions. It is sure to be an impressive display.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you make of this.

Looks like I will be buying a house in two to three months so I will get to set it up sooner than I thought. It looks like money wise on led lighting and skimmer maybe first of the year though possible time I get everything done.
I need to find someone to buff the tank while its broken down. The previous onwer had no isses with bulkheads but I wonder if I should put new gaskets on it? In case I run into issues later with it. It was full of sw and running when I got it.
I am really leaning on the Kessil led a350 lights. Anyone got a tank size similar to mine and using these lights?
I really want a reef tank and thinking I'm going reef route.

How deep are the scratches? You could fill the tank with fresh water and see how many scratches disappear.

Orphek makes some LED lights that may work well for you tank. Orphek Drops a Pendant LED Bomb: DIF 100/50 XP | PRLog (http://www.prlog.org/11833063-orphek-drops-pendant-led-bomb-dif-10050-xp.html)

chort - :)

Congrats on the new house. While nothing is permanently committed, get an electrician to wire specifically for your tank. GFCI, isolated circuit, at least 20A. You'll be glad you did down the road... Moving a tank like that later, well it probably just doesn't happen.

Can't wait to see water in that tank!

I wished I thought about the GFCI outlet before setting the tank in place. I still might can get to it. I need to get the tank scratches polished on the inside before adding water. It looks like it will be difficult though. Anyone in my area done this?

The bulk heads plumbed out the bottom in the back. I wonder how often you got to replace the seals? Thinking on doing it but the guy who had it had no issues. Its on very tight.

I picked up a ro kemflo filter system used for 6 months for a $100.00 today. It should be a ro/di 5 or 6 stage. I was told it was 6 stage. It has one sediment filter, 2 carbon filters, a resin filter, a odor (taste, ordor, ect) filter, not sure what the other one is. I was told the resin filter is the di part. Good deal? I have know idea setting it up, help would be appreciated if you dealt with that brand.

I also picked up 200g bucket of oceanic salt. I already got some crushed coral for bottom of tank but did not wanted to use it and go with sand instead do to acrylic tank but that would set me back a bit cash wise. what do you think? I don't know if I got enough crush coral yet. Anyone got extra reef sand they want to get rid of?

Next I'm working on getting me a reef octopus 3000 or 300 model in sump filter system. If you got one let me know. I don't mind used if a good price and nothing wrong with it or something better skimmer wise. I should be able to get one in 2 weeks.
