View Full Version : Substrate & Liverock how long for my tank not to be a cloud?

i just filled my 70 gallon and sump with R/O water and my tank is all clouded up from pouring the water in. how many days does it take to clear up? i am runing my wet dry for now just to clear things up. thanks

Depending on what you used for substrate it can take 1 to 3 days (or more) but running that filter will definately help pull some of the finer particles out.

BTW if you have your liverock already I'd get it in there, or at least throw a raw cocktail shrimp in there to start the cycle. Reason being that the good bacteria will actually attach to the sand particles and litterally weigh them down. The extra surface area of the particles in the water column is prime surface area real estate to start gowing your bacteria on.

its been a few days i don't know how long to keep them in the tank? do i keep them in till they are gone?

You can pull them as soon as you start seeing the ammonia spike up. It should jump upwards of 5-10ppm, from that point there is enough ammonia in the tank to start the nitrifying bacteria population.
