OK to start I'm looking to order a return pump for my 75 I'm slowly working on
it will be a submersible pump.
# 1 above wattage use or anything else Quit is the # one preference
# 2 reliability
# 3 efficient
# 4 cost
So let me no whit you like in pumps not just i like a pump but the reason
you like them :-)

I've used a MAG12 for the last yr,no complaints at all.I have a QuietOne4000 that is being shipped to me this week.I'll report back what i think of it.At$60,the QO4000 seems to be a good deal.BTW,the QO4000 is going to be my return for my 75 too.

so hopeful the new ones Thea came out with or a better pump.
ill be waiting to hear your report on them.
Maybe i shod explain the old model i have cant handle lime build up
at all just a thin deposit and it wont start with out a bang on the side

That sounds like the old RIO 2500's,banging them to get them to start.I still use a RIO2100 in one of my other tanks, that pump is 4yrs old and still going.RIO gotta really bad rep because of the 2500.I still use there powerheads, some of which are going on 4yrs old too and never had a problem. The MAG12 seems to be a quality pump,I cant hear it all submersed in my sump. Then again,my overflow sounds like Niagra Falls so its hard to hear anything over that.

I was going to replace the 3000 but decided to Waite till i got the 75 up
as it will have a lot more flow. It has a bottom overflow with a 1'' and
3/4 outlet in it I'm going to use both as drains and run back over the top.

Jerry,if i had to do it over again,i wouldn't of went with such a powerful pump like the MAG12 as a return.900gph after head loss is too much flow through a sump like mine. The 75 will only have a 650ish return after head loss.Makes for a quieter overflow and increases the contact time the skimmer has with the water/output from overflow.
