Anyone ever use this?

Was told to use this in my tank instead of carbon or fluval brown filter stuff (can't remember the name) to help with ridding tank of cyano along with siphoning and water change. Well, since I have changed to this, my 2 clowns got white stuff on them and died, my new clown goby is dying and my tail spot Benny died. Not sure of coincidence or something else. Perimeters are great. Nitrate and nitrites low, ammonia low, salinity 1.024, temp 76-78f, 20% water change once a week. Inverts are doing well. Firefish has a couple spots but eating and moving about. Any thoughts? I am devastated losing my clowns.

i would work on getting the nitrites and ammonia down to zero ( also i dont know what low is, numbers would help us help you), it wont take much ammonia to kill livestock. as for that product, ive never heard of it before.

How long has the tank been up? I cannot see the picture so I don't know what you used, but to have any ammonia in the tank is pretty alarming. It would be essentialy burning your fish and therefore stressing / killing them

I have the tetra strips and it says ammonia is in "ideal" color and same for nitrates and nitrites. Tank has been up for about 3 months

i dont have any experience with the tetra strips, i dont know how helpful they are. i use api and red sea test kits, they can get a little costly but they give you the numerical value of what your measuring which helps. what kind of water are you using for your water changes? that could be the initial cause of the cyano.

it may be helpful to find out what is causing the cyano and try to fix that, rather than trying to treat the cyano, otherwise cyano may be a reoccurring issue.

Was using tap and now using ro water. Anyone know the difference between ich and marine velvet? Also what are thoughts on "no ich marine" treatment

i always thought velvet was more orange-ish brown, but i have never actually sen it, just heard other talk about it.

IME,
I have only used for emergency purposes in the past.
The last time I used I did leave in for a couple weeks and corals did not look so well and be it an irony or not my semi pic. clown acquired ick @ same time, all other fish were fine
Unfortunately, I do not have any clue what had happened but I do suspect it was the sudden super stripping of the water column.

Well just an update, all fish perished. Inverts ok, just going to let tank run its course for 6-8 weeks and baby the corals. Not going to use any chemicals, no use killing everything off, lol. Thanks for all the help.

Sorry about your fish. Velvet is harder to see but can be seen if you look. It looks like the fish is covered in small white dots, smaller than ich. They appear dull or dusted has been a description. Your symptoms do sound more like odinium (velvet) than they do ich. Odinium kills in hours to days. Ich can take a week or more. It is also possible that what you saw was a secondary bacterial infection and not the odinium. It is very hard to see and takes a trained eye. If you do not quarantine your fish then you must learn to spot it. I will not purchase a fish unless I have watched him for a very long time. Any scratching on a rock, however subtle is an early sign. Twisting or flicking oddly is also a sign. Except in angels, they do this naturally.

The poly filter will NOT cause the problem. They are very good water scrubbers. Have you added any fish lately? Ich can show up anytime. A stressed fish can develop ich but odinium has to be introduced.

It's lifespan is much faster than ich also. You can leave your tank fallow for 30 days and they will be dead. Some people believe 15 days is enough but I would error on the longer side. The free swimming stage only lasts 24 hours. They must find a host in that time or they die.
