Since I obsess about everything else in this hobby may as well not skimp on my build here :)
After seeing how stands are made not to mention the cost there was no way I would trust staples and simple 1x construction...oak please :/
I chose to use common pine (bc I really love the knots...however constructionally incorrect, and thanks Juniormc8704 for bugging me till i caved to plane the wood LOLOL) glued and screwed sandwiched 1x6 Jenga'd together (thank you Poseidon/Mike for the recommendation!!) It will be completely pained/poly w/ stained front, sump area will be poly'd then rubberized (for always inevitable overflow). There is a dry box under the top of the stand to safely store all power strips, and a drain in the top (under tank) to direct any overflow into the top of the ref/sump.

Now, I could not just have the Utilitarian Master stand...I want to have something pretty too. I had chosen to design a skin/fascia and model after a Torii design from Shinto architecture.
I will be painting the void areas That are actually removable panels (ie between legs and top boards) the same color as background wall, want to achieve an illusion of openness.
Please excuse the highly detailed drawing style lol

So many more things a stand needs to do. Not to mention the flimsy stands cost $$$ for $50 in material.
I'm not a carpenter so I had to figure out how to build a stand within a stand but interlock everything was hardest part.
Made a list of all the features I wanted and after a month And several plan changes I cam up this.:oldman:

Well was feeling a little artsy today so I decided to carve the Gabon Ebony
5670
This stuff is crazy hard!
Kind of cool thing...
The 2 tools in the pic are generational tools, square was my dad's and the draw knife was my Grandpa's (may they both rest) both were into wood projects
I find it appropriate and fitting to use them in the finish fascia

Well my Doberman decided she needed a snack...on a piece of cocobolo that was carved to fit @ base of leg @ least she left me a piece LOL
Since cocobolo is nearly impossible to find I had yet another unexpected change in plans. I chose olive wood as its replacement for unsaid reasons

Well it has been a while since any updates. A couple family members passed as well as 2 of my dogs. Wood is all prepped and ready to be mounted. Spring is my new setup goal.
However, I did keep Jeff (Flynstone) busy designing and building my "Red-Fugium". After some time and a few scrapped plans I decided to just give him 100% freedom on design and build since I was doing circles. He came up w/ a totally wicked design including light restricted raceway, skimmer box, fug area, and twin 7" filter socks.

Looks great David. I like the rose panels. Are they just for aesthetics or serve a purpose that you feel will be beneficial ??

Other than tinting the red was just a cool idea of Flynnstone's and I fell in love w/ bc never see one that looks like it!
He always has amazing ideas! Even the function is out of the box thinking, and incorporates all my..we will say "anal" requests and incorporated low light raceway for sponges.
Jeff/ Flynnstone never let's me down!!!!
Thank you thank you!!!
Awesome on the Blue Tort, whenever ready :)

Sorry everyone...
Crazy busy lately
flynnstone delivered my new sump the "Red-Fugium" last week and it is a beauty!!! Not to mention a BEAST...1/2" laminated and tinted (both red and smoke) glass, siliconed edge, and the most unique flow design I've ever seen!!!
All I can say is "I am truly amazed by his work and unique concept!"

Exactly Mike!
From filter socks...Through biological sponge a-photosynthetic area (small area between filter socks and skimmer box)...through skimmer box...overflowing into fug area...through bubble trap into return chamber.
Design is 100% flynnstone's. I requested a couple features and turned him loose

David, what type of critters are you planning in that tunnel? Micro feather dusters would be cool, though I would be concerned about reducing the flow through there.
Also the skimmer chamber, you must have a very specific skimmer in mind to fit there?

Mike,
Feathers and sponges are my intent. The size of the chamber will keep center open for flow...frequent maintanence checks when changing FSs. I have a 3" brush I plan on using if any issue ...I will think positive
I am using Salt Water Connection SWC160 love this skimmer!!! Outperformed my Bubble King Mini 180 on my old DT
