So I've got the tank full with 0 tds water, sg to 1025 and temp to 75. I already had the 240lbs of special reef sand (not rinsed) in the tank when I filled it with water. It filled clean and then I turned one tunze on low to keep it from stagnating until I could see if there was going to be any kind of cycle. That's when the cloud started and after I shut the tunze overnight, it still won't settle. At least two days now. I'm setting up a temporary overflow with sponge and a sump to circulate the water and maybe clean it up some. Also going to have an AquaC 180 skimmer on a mag 7. Q:Can you guys think of a better way to clean this cloud up besides dumping my $50 of salt water and starting over? Thanks, Tom

I'd go with a filter sock, and call it good. ;)

I have used the pillow stuffing trick which worked great. I put it in the fuge next to the drain and make a line across the fuge. It's very cheap and collects the fine sediment very quickly! Filter sock works but gets clogged very quickly. Food for thought is all. :oldman:

I've used this same stuffing. Works great!

Throw an aquaclear hob filter on it for a few days. Stir the sand up every fee hours and you will be good.

Seed the sand with several cups of live sand from a trusted friends system to jumpstart the bacteria growth. Once the sand starts getting coated with beneficial bacteria it will settle like a rock.
I had the same problem when I started my 100G with 330 lbs of unrinsed Southdown sugar sand. It took a week or two to be crystal clear but the benefits of the surface area of the fine sand were worth it.

Thanks for the help, Folks!

I ran an overflow through a filter sock and also ran the Aqua C. Lots of white skim that didn't smell. All cleared up today and can see to the back.

Great suggestions!

LOL, o.k. I'll give you a bunch:

Out with the old:

Had to do some re-plumbing. Stinkin' braces were in the wrong place:

This is where all the corals/fish/anemones lived for awhile and weren't too happy:

Brad and Jason from GLA popped the new one on the tank like it was nothin'::

Sand is in and what a mess:

Plumbing's done, temp light hanging (still need to go to HD)and I fired it up. What a S#!+ Storm!:

Trimmed out and lit up with some of the corals in. Waiting for the Son to show up to help me with scaping:

Pics are blurry, but you get the idea. Man am I glad that's done. I ran the Magnavore over the front, back and sides in about 20 minutes to get the dust off. What a pleasure.
Thanks for all the advice, Folks!
Tom

Well, it's been up just over a year and some of the corals have grown in pretty well. This is a mixed tank with lots of easy corals and a pile of fish. I'm enjoying using Instant Ocean. Water changes about every month or two 50g. Biopellets IMO is working well too. I'm using about a liter every six months or so. Still LED's on 50% and auto feeder. This is how old men do reef. Easy and easier. Here's some updated pics. I should have kicked up the white leds a little more.

Wow that's a lot of RBTAs! Looks awesome! Thanks! too many rbta's. I've stopped feeding them so they are reproducing slower, but still... Haven't figured out how to safely get them off the rock yet.

Nicely done sir! Looks great!! Thanks Chuck! Nothing too exciting, but fun to look at when the game goes to commercials, lol.
