View Full Version : Tanks, Sumps & Refugiums Cylinder tank fresh to salt

so i have acquired a brand new cylinder fish tank (6 gal). It is for fresh water but has an led top and a built in filter. i want to put a strip of day lights and maybe more LEDs inside of the hood and keep a small seahorse. i know it was for fresh water but i dont think that matters too much

any suggestions
pros cons?

the back area for the filter is as long and as the tank and the filter hangs off of it I am wondering if I can fit a small refugium box in that tower

thats what i was thinking. my main concern is if I can have plants of anything in there for the seahorse to hold on to

I think seahorses would be a great idea in a tank like that! Or pipes, or a little cowfish... So many possibilities.

yeah i can def help with plants for that kind of tank.

but... seahorses and pipes are something i am also familiar with. i have never had seahorses but thats because i cant afford the equipment to keep them. anyways def no pipes in that tank way to small. and if you are adding horses to that tank you are limited to the dwarf ones, they will only get and inch or two. heres a link to the horses im talking about. make sure you do some research on the horses too. they are trickier than most would imagine.

good plants for that kind of tank would be anything that doesnt attach well and if it does attach well it must be a slow grower. tree halimeda, mermaids fan for sure ( horses and pipes love to hang on to it), shaving brush, if youre getting good light you can do some red macros too, botryocladia. the plant world is very diverse. let m know i have many macros, i love mocros, and i know of many more than what i have currently.

the lights in the tank are white leds and blue leds do you think that is enough for the shaving brush and stuff? I would like to add something stronger that would attach inside of the lid but it would need to be a flexible light string
