I ordered 100 lbs of this rock:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7742703610&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT
Has anyone ever used this type of live rock before? I love the shapes and colors so I thought I'd give it a try. How long should I cure it for?
I've always just bought small amounts at a time and added it directly to the tank after a quick rinse. Curing this much live rock will be something new for me. Looks like I better get another brute container ready. I'm adding some of it to the New seahorse tank and the rest will be added to the 125G. Since the New sea horse tank is just starting to cycle, Can I just add the rock directly to the tank? There isn't anything in there except a piece of raw shrimp and the sand bed.
I will post pics of the rock when I get it.
Thanks,
Angie

Definitely let us know how you make out with this vendor. Post some pics, too, please. If it's uncured rock, it may need to cure for a couple of weeks. Give it the smell test every few days. :-D

Angie since the cycle is just starting go ahead and toss in whatever LR you want now... The extra die off will have very little effect on the cycle, may even shorten it some.

I got an email from the person I bought the rock from. It seems there was an election in Hatti last week and there were riots. Apparently they close the airport during riots so I won't be able to get my rock for a week. It will get shipped to me next Monday (2-20) hopefully.
I'm not too happy that I sent someone $320.00 for rock that they didn't already have in their possession. Does this mean it's sitting in a warehouse someplace since it couldn't ship out from Hatti last week? That kinda ticks me off. But it was the best price I could find for 100 lbs of it. I will let you all know when it gets here. As long as I get it before the 27th I'll be happy. I want to have the rock cured by mid April. That is when I plan on getting the new 240G tank. I will be using my current 125 for the sump!! I can't wait to have a HUGE sump. Then I can finally have my prop. / frag tank area in the end portion sump. It seems like every time I get close to getting this tank something happens to prevent it. Not this time I hope ;)

The rock is here Finally!!! Late, but here. The rock is beautiful but smelly. And I'm not talking down wind from a pig farm smelly........it's much worse than that. I cleared the house of any and all things that need fresh air to survive. The kids immediately headed upstairs to their bedrooms and closed their doors. Even the dog headed upstairs. I felt sorry for the bird, so he is now upstairs too. It's just me and the stink on the lower level of the house. (thank goodness my husband is gone for another week)
The rock was shipped in wet newspaper. Not good, but it wasn't dry rock either. The shipping took too long, that I know. Apparently it was shipped on Monday. I got it today, Friday. I'm not sure how live it is, but it can be seeded if need be.
I'm very happy with the shapes and sized of the pieces of rock. It's like nothing you see in a LFS. All in all it was worth the wait and the $$. I will order from them again, but I will pay for overnight shipping the next time.
I have to get batteries for the digi cam and then I will post some pics.

Live rock shipped in wet newspaper is common. I've got some off of ebay that way and everything was fine with it.

Thats what I was going to say, but I was wondering if there was something I was missing. Wet Newspaper seems to be the standard to keep the rocks "moist".

Wet newspaper is ok, unless it is 4 pieces and the rock takes 5 days to get here. There was actually mold growing on a few pieces.
