i ran GFO for the longest time. but recently i have been having trouble with it. it has been making my water really cloudy. i havent run the reactor for several months because every time i try to set it up again it does the same thing. this time (less than a week) i have the reactor way down and its not too cloudy but slightly cloudy any ways.

i think its time to try a dif route with gfo. and seeing as how i havent tried BRS's GFO yet. i might be in for some of that if we can meet at the lansing swap or something. i cant take half, no funds for that, but ill take some.

also is this the high capacity GFO?

Yes it is the high cap. I will keep you in mind. I am looking into doing something else now. The last bucket was half that !

Brutewell has some Po4 reducer products that I am reading on. It's just crazy what GFO is going for now time for another route.

The high capacity GFO can be regenerated

Dputt your not the only one, with the cloudy water. A good friend of mine was having the same issue recently. He stopped running GFO as well.

Sorry didn't mean to hijack thread.

My guess is there must be a bad source/batch that was put on the market. And it's just circulating around. But as far as brands go who knows.

Seachem Phosguard is what I use.
Ferric oxide doesn't remove as much phosphate weight for weight compared to Seachem. Ferric oxide has a tendency to remove acidic organics at the same time so it's working as carbon in that sense not strictly a phosphate remover.

Is this product ran in a fluidized reactor ? Where do you get it ? And what level of Po4 (pm) have you been able to maintain with it ? Intrested for sure. Do you carry this at kee's?

I do not work at Kees anymore so I am not sure if they carry it.
You can run it fluidized or in a bag. It does not clump like gfo. I have had some tanks down to 0.00 with the Hanna checker but most of my tanks run 0.01-0.05.

Most online places carry it under sachem products.[COLOR="Silver"]

It should work well for you guys. I emailed back and forth with Seachem's tech support. I was wondering why Seachem never came out with ferric oxide since everyone else had. Basically, it's an inferior product to the aluminum oxide.
All the post you hear of being negative to leather corals is more likely due to rapid phosphate removal than the aluminum like people post. Seachem even ran their own lab grade test on it.

Like any other product start small and work your way up. I love it. It doesn't clump. It's spherical so it has a large surface area and you get great water passage through it. I like I can run it in a bag and not need a reactor.

This is what I use. I run a two stage BRS with carbon in one and SeaChem PhosGuard in the other. I buy the 1 litre jar from Preuss for $23.00 and I divide it into thirds. I change the carbon and PhosGuard every three weeks, so it lasts a good couple months. It's good for idiots. Tumbles better than the Ferric Oxide stuff, turns brown when exhausted, doesn't leach crap back into the system when full. I used the bulk Ferric Oxide stuff and used the recommended dosage from BRS and wasn't pleased with the results. Didn't "peculate", Corals were not happy and lost a few animals. I switched to the SeaChem and it works well for me, plus locally available.

Good for idiots !! Well paint me blue and show me the line !! Sounds perfect for me lol. Thanks for the input John,I am in for sure now ! Your tank speaks for itself. I need to visit preuss now that I am getting around better anyway. Thanks
