PVC connections

Can you use pvc sched 40 elbows and sched 80 pipe? Will they bond together or are they different materials. I have some sched 80 pipe left over from something else and all I can find at Lowes is sched 40 elbows. Should I stop being cheap and go pay the $4.00 for a length of sched 40 pipe? lol

You should be able to use it. Is the Schedule 80 stuff the thinwall stuff? I use that on my return lines, but not on my pressure lines. Probably doesn't matter though.

No, the 80 has a thicker wall than the forty and it is gray where as the 40 is white.

Mixing Sched 40 and 80 is fine, unlike Sched 20 the outside diameters are the same, the 80. You can use the same primer/cements.

i would wonder about the schedule 80 being safe for water......(leaching?) since the gray stuff you have if usually used in an electrical form as conduit for wiring. May be safe and won't leach but just a thought.......

Haven't seen any problems here with it... though I know it'd very commonly used down south for potable/household water. But may be worth researching a bit.

Good question,I also prefer to use the thinwall PVC on my plumbing,it allows for more flow becuase of the larger ID.I'm not sure what the coorect name is for thinwall PVC,maybe someone else can chime in with that info.

thinwall pvc is generally schedule 21......for any of the pressures that we deal with in this hobby it will be fine....the only problem I have with the stuff is that it is a lot easier to break and crack than the schedule 40 pipe so I only use it on drains etc. If you knock something over that is heavy enough and it hits... it will break pretty easily.

Around hear the sch 20 thin wall is not aloud to be used for home constriction
its just a cheaper form of sch 40 the same as sch 40 is to sch 80
personally i don't like the thin wall as it becomes brittle over time. That
is the reason Thea cant use it
